Friday!

Standard

I can’t believe this week has gone by somewhat quickly. I had fun with the childhood toy post yesterday! My mom didn’t take a ton of photos of us as there were four of us. There’s more of my older brother because my maternal grandfather was still alive and he enjoyed photography. He had a ‘Brownie’ (or other make) camera and I remember getting to use it as a kid. It was the kind you lined up the shot through looking at a piece of glass in the top, similar to how some digital cameras work now.

Similar to the above and it looked like this (thanks to this blog):

The digital I mainly use, the Canon Rebel doesn’t work that way. I have to look through the viewfinder like an ‘old fashioned’ hand held camera.

Not much new. I put down some mulch in a few gardens on Wednesday, didn’t have enough. I figure I will need 8 bags for where I want to put it. I weeded out the herb garden, whew that was bad! The Creeping Charlie weed is such a pain. All that bending over hasn’t helped my problem I mentioned at the beginning of the week, but I really think I have a pulled muscle pressing on my bladder.

Dragged in many bags of groceries yesterday. Sean will be home on Wednesday and he’ll hungry! ; ) He is still trying to find an internship.

I’m trying to figure out if I want to go to my mom’s. She’s still in the middle of going through things. I could help her with that, but I do miss going shopping with her! She’s been in a few thrift shops lately though. She confessed to me. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

Happy 23rd to my nephew David tomorrow!

Have a great weekend!

A bit of a chill in the air

Standard

So long to the balmy 70s! It is suppose to dip in the 30s tonight! I covered up most of my plants with an old shower curtain and brought in the tomatoes and coleus.

I haven’t been sleeping well, lots of bathroom trips. I used the heating pad and Bri got me some cranberry juice. I don’t have pain, so I’m thinking I may have injured myself outside lifting something, using the hoe or leaning over too much. I am seeing the word ‘prolapse’ a little too often when looking on boards. The old adage ‘it’s always something’ seems to apply to me all the time. I had a little afternoon snooze with the cat today. I hardly ever do that. Hopefully I will work that problem out, but I will say I was grumpy for a few days. I did start a gift to get me out of my cross stitch pit, but I cut the fabric just big enough’. Don’t cut fabric when you are tired.

I just proof read about 6-7 pages of Sean’s research paper on climate. It took me 2 hours today and 2 hours for the first 7-8 pages. He will be home next Wednesday and needs to get a job or his internship settled. He was turned down for the Delaware one as the lady thought a reference from high school wasn’t appropriate for a college student. I did question Sean about that too. Listen to your mama!

I see that Emily from The Floss Box received the postcard that I made for her (sent to Sweden), so I’ll share it here (as she did on her blog-thanks!):

and here’s an old one I found of Longwood Gardens from the internet

These appear to be the Italian Water Gardens that I didn’t photograph the other day.

Hoping for a warmer and heat pad-less day tomorrow!

Get out the weed whacker!

It’s time for me to do a little trimming-actually a lot of trimming. I might as well get the hoe out too! The weather is fab, I’m feeling better good (except for an on and off itchy throat and post nasal), but it’s the spring and everything is blooming and leafing like crazy. This makes me think of Sean. Many of you know Sean is a Geography major with a climatology influence and he’s finishing up a 15 research paper on climate changes in the Northeast. I proof his papers and I learn a lot too. Actually what I proofed last night had to do with how early warming is causing problems with animals and their food chain. The example was saying that chickadee babies eat moths that need to hatch when oaks are blooming which are maturing before they hatch and destroying them and affecting the birds. (I thought it was effect and Sean’s prof says affect). Interesting stuff. He is going to be doing an internship nearby in Delaware at Ashland Nature Center where he volunteered in high school. It’s really pretty there. He tried to get in Longwood Gardens, but they didn’t need anymore interns.

I did make the pasta, arugula and cannellini beans for dinner. It really fills you up, but I was hungry at 6:30 this morning! I had to get a Special K bar then. I have to recommend this yummy peanut butter mix called Better n’ Peanut butter that I purchased at Trader Joe’s the other day. It’s not all peanut butter, but it’s only 2 grams of fat and tastes like roasted peanuts! I had some on whole grain bread this morning. I have to recommend their chocolate meringue drops again-if you love chocolate, these are a good fix!

Here’s a photo of our dinner from last night (with a topping of toasted walnuts):

It needs Parmesan to boost the flavor! Also, don’t overwilt the arugula as it gets stringy. The actual recipe looks like it uses more than I did.

24 yrs married today!

Brian & Dianne’s wedding day, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Wow, where did those years go? Though we’ve changed in a lot of ways, like all married couple do, we are best friends! We are the proud parents of Sean who is the cement in our relationship. Sean is someone we think equally of, not so much with politics, a few aspects of religion and a maybe some other things, but I won’t nit pick.

The most fun we’ve had (so far) is our trip to New England a few months after we got married. (Ok, we had fun in Orlando a few years ago too!) Up in New England, we just went from place to place with only a few planned stops. I hope we can take similar trips sometime soon! And of course being parents can be fun, especially when you make your child give you his first ‘belly laugh’. Laughing and sharing are the keys to any relationship.
Happy Anniversary dear Brian!

Thanks for your sweet comments! We really appreciated them.

Missing in blogland

Only a few pals are blogging regularly this week. I know one had company and others are waiting for their long winter to end so they can go out in their yards and blog about flowers, etc.

I was going to try and get to Longwood Gardens today if the rain holds out. I’m mainly interested in the orchids in the conservatories, but it’s a little walk to that area. Now my mom wants to come out too, but I bet I won’t see her for at least 3 or more hours. She’s anxious to print out her flower show pictures as I just bought her two ink cartridges for her new printer for Easter. She also wants to use her camera more. Sean used his new camera at the Clinton rally, though he wasn’t that close (8k were there!). He also took a little video. I guess he will upload them sometime today. I also have to proof a couple of his papers over the weekend.

I really feel like I need to get out of the house today, so I’m hoping I can at least chase a few raindrops to see something different.

A metal structure from the recent Philadelphia Flower Show. That big leaf looks like he is being modest and hiding behind it!

And one of the most famous structures in Orlando, Florida-

The Epcot sphere. That’s Sean giving the thumbs up. We weren’t planning on doing Disney (just Universal) back in ’05, but decided to go on Mother’s Day. I could have had my legs fall off that night and wouldn’t have known it!

I’m the 3rd comment on Martha Stewart’s blog-woo hoo!

Congrats on 500 fabulous shows! I really enjoyed your photos too. Thanks for inspiring a domestic goddess in mushroom country of PA!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day

Carnations

I wore green yesterday and may have to again today as I go looking for some corned beef. : ) The above faux carnations were about 29¢ each at Michaels. Pretty aren’t they? Irish heritage is rich on Brian’s side of the family. He is Brian Patrick! I have a drop of Irish blood in my veins from my maternal great grandmom Lillian Deere whose people were from County Cork.

Sean made it back to State College fine. The days he is coming or going set us on edge until we know he’s where he is suppose to be. We know the roads up there and you would worry too.

I didn’t realize how busy I was last week when Sean was home. I was on the go for 3 straight days and just pooped out on the weekend. I could have gone to bed at 7 last night. Mom just said I maybe shouldn’t be doing all that raking because of the procedure I had 3.5 months ago, but it needs to be done. Mom’s yard needs cleaning up too.

I pulled out this project yesterday, the DMC linen thread project Butterfly Heart :

Butterfly Heart
The main butterfly is almost complete. Mom had given me the complete box of threads. It’s different from the regular DMC, coarser for one thing. I am liking it more as the colors fill in.

Speaking of stitching, please visit Stitch Pink for a chance to win these awesome prizes. (thanks for the link Barbara)

I asked Brian to trim a few bushes on Saturday (to get him moving a bit too) and why not use the new electric saw that Sean and I bought him last year for Father’s Day. To make a long story short, the chain came off and he was trying to put it back on and sliced into one of his fingernails, about half way down. Ugh. He is using that liquid bandage, but is keeping a close watch of it. I feel so guilty, but since it’s a Kraftsman, he could have taken it to Sears to get it fixed or wear gloves. Makes me think back when Sean cut into one of his fingers with the hedge clippers-not wearing gloves-but he went to the ER.
I need to do a bunch of things around here and hope my soreness from raking and hauling simmers down. There seems to be leaves from every yard within a 1 mile radius in our yard this year!
Oh, the forsythia may be blooming for Easter.
