John Deere Tractor
My mom and I took about 150 photos on Thursday, which helped as I couldn’t think of anything practical! There were vintage tractors on display, so thank goodness for these practical and hardworking machines. And I have a family connection with the name Deere! My maternal great grandmom’s maiden name is Deere! My grandmom told the story of how John Deere had a fight with his brother ‘who ever-could be William’ and because of that, he didn’t go into the plow/tractor business with John. I looked up his bio again and one said he was one of three boys, so maybe there is some truth to the story, but our side of the family didn’t have Deere money.  I’m not saying he isn’t a distant relative, because that’s an unusual name. Speaking of which, I read that Deere had a daughter named Jeannette and my mom’s name is Jeanne. Wonder if my grandfather knew this as John was suppose to be his great uncle?

Another side note; several years ago another Deere relative’s obituary was in the paper and she lived in Chadds Ford, a stone’s throw from here. Small world.

Around my house

Standard

Here’s most of the front step area. You can’t see another little scarecrow on the other side. That’s a ‘fake’ pumpkin! I don’t carve pumpkins anymore, but I like them. This is ok until I grow them again. I do hope to get more than one though!

The front door
My pretty salmon colored nemesia came back in the front window box!
Nemesia made a return
And finally-to show some damage a chestnut tree burr can do-I was pushing my garden cart with the decorations from the lawn to the shed, one popped up from under the wheel and hit me full force in my ankle! Ouch! (It’s not a bump…it’s a few dozen little puncture wounds!)

My boo boo

This (laryngospasm) is what happened to me yesterday morning. It’s happened a few times over the last few months, especially when I have a stuffed up nose. I believe yesterday my sinuses were trying to drain too. Not fun.

On the news they just said MRSA, a staph infection, is spreading in schools around my hometown. Not a pretty thing. If you get a weird boil or something on your skin that doesn’t heal, you better get it looked at before it goes into your bloodstream.

The last hotel that we stayed in down in Atlantic City got imploded tonight! It was the Sands and we stayed there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary back in ’04. Sean and mom were with us. I believe some of my first blog entries were about this funky trip.

The Sands implodes!

My sinuses were fine walking around Longwood Gardens yesterday, but today they were annoying. We had the warmer than usual weather again. My mom went home in the late afternoon after we went to Walmart. I was hoping what I bought in there for Sean’s birthday could have been mailed, but we went through the town at 4:17 and the post office closes at 4:30.

Some good stuff :

A bought item from Walmart that is so yummy:

Strawberry Milkshake Whoppers!

You can’t eat just one!

I bought a small bottle of this at the Longwood Gardens gift shop, Thymes eucalyptus lotion:

Delightful and strong enough to smell like nice soap.

Splendid fall day

Mom came back from my uncle’s house and we headed over to Longwood Gardens. Most of the pretty beds that were there in September are gone. Not to say there wasn’t a lot to look at! We were there about 3 hours as it was in the high 70s.We got a wheelchair and I definitely worked out every muscle in my bod! Mom did get up a lot. I let her use my Power Shot digital and she had a blast using that until the battery died. We had some food in the restaurant (Mom a full lunch at 3! and me a half of pita with hummus and portabella mushrooms) The following photos are mine (out of 75!)

So I’ve been told (and I know-lol) that I am curvy. But you ain’t seeing me in a bathing suit. ; )
So instead, here is a knot garden at Longwood Gardens:
Knot Garden
By the way, I added some of the pictures I’ve been editing in paint shop pro over in my Flickr account if you’d like to take a look. There are over 2k photos there now (I’ve been adding to it for at least 8 years or more). It’s not a free account, but I don’t have to pay up for another few weeks. You can upload any size photo you want, join groups, have contacts, etc.! It’s fun to see art trading cards that others do as they inspire me.
Hope you are having a nice Saturday. Bri and I both seem to have tummy issues, but I think I narrowed mine down to eating these cheddar ‘whale’ snacks that are very orange, but oh so good. They are a rip off of the Pepperidge Farm fish. I ate some at bedtime and had heartburn around 3 am. I’ve been cutting back on peppermint products too. I still think Sean has something to do with how we feel. You’ll see what I mean soon.
My mom is at a fair that she has gone to with I’ve been a kid. A bum tranmission (her car is on it’s last legs) didn’t deter her from attending today. It’s in a ritzy area, so they usually have great knick knacks and clothes. I have gone in the past, but it’s over an hour to get there and you know the early bird gets the worm and I am not an early bird by any means. Tomorrow is a big flea market at the Delco campus of Penn State where Sean use to attend. We’re going to try to go there at least and before noon. ; )

The Phillies are having a hard time with the Colorado Rockies, meaning they have lost 2 out of 2 games so far. They are in Colorado now. I learned not to get my hopes up when it comes to our teams winning the big games. I guess that’s why we were over the moon when the Phils won the World Series in 1980. As the late Tug McGraw use to say, ‘You’ve gotta believe’.

It was a sad past week-the anniversary of the Nickel Mines shooting in Amish country was a year ago. Two guards in Abington (part of Philly) were assassinated as they added money to an ATM machine (I believe this is what happened). The killer didn’t just ask them to surrender the money, he shot them in cold blood. Both had been police officers for many years. And my friend Lisa lost her young dad, only 54, last Oct. 6th. God bless her.

College boy update-
He is doing well; got some good grades this past week. He is still struggling with Statistics and needs to pull that grade up. He got an ‘A’ on a paper I proof read about surveillance and a ‘B’ on one about two South American countries and their weather. He would have gotten an ‘A’ on that one also, but he forgot a map of the countries.
He is learning the hard way when it comes to parties. Let’s just say he isn’t going to drink ‘punch’ anymore, just beverages that are in cans. It seems after he was sick last weekend, my tummy acted up-see!!-it is Sean!
And congrats to singer Sally Taylor and her husband Dean on the arrival of their son born on the 4th of Oct. No name was given, but he’s a cutie and makes James a grandfather for the first time. If that boy doesn’t have curly hair, I’ll be surprised! I didn’t know her husband’s hair was so curly and Sal has a head of curls herself. Neat, I got credit for telling celebrity baby blog about the little guy’s arrival. I just love the Taylors!

I lasted an hour, but I did a ton of walking. It’s the first time I felt relaxed in a long time. I wasn’t ever really alone. People said ‘hello’ or made comments about things. There is an outdoor train set up featuring Thomas the Train and the little ones were going ga ga!
I bought myself some nasturtium seeds and a little boxed display of speckled eggs-so cute. Watch for a slide show and a video!

So I’m thinking

Standard

It would be a nice day to go to Longwood Gardens and use up some of that pass I bought in January. I’ve been there only twice this year. Bad girl! I was going to walk for exercise around this scenic area and get snap happy with the camera. That doesn’t mean I can’t go every week now until the end of the year or until the pass runs out. And I don’t have to stay 4 hours. I could stay 1/2 hour. The thing for me is going alone. I know, I thought this out. I was hoping there was a walking group there and I need to look into that. Most of the people I know around here are acquaintances. Believe me, I tried for BFF with some people who turned out to be jerks. It’s easier with acquaintances. I have my family to think about first anyway.

Thanks for the 10 or so visitors to my neighborhood yesterday. I actually thought of adding more photos, but those who know me, know I have tons of photos in flickr(see side bar). Speaking of Longwood Gardens, I have a slideshow of that at slide.com (if you go there, click ‘original view’). And over in Vodpod is a little movie of my yard. I haven’t made any new movies lately. I have to think about what to make a movie of. Maybe I should take two cameras with me to LG!

So my private caller didn’t call back…yet. It’s almost noon. I’m thinking it’s an organization that is always calling here for money(who have called again and again) and I do believe they had a private number. The day isn’t over yet, but I am not going to fret about it.

I’m trying out flax seed capsules for my triglycerides. I need to get them checked out as it’s been 14 months since my last bloodwork was done. I read that salmon and fish oil is better and it helped Bri. I really dislike burping the fishy taste. My pal at tribe.net said there is another type of fish oil that isn’t as burpy. I’d rather eat salmon! Blackened salmon cajun style-yum!

Update of the college guy-he sent me his first paper to proof read about surveillance. I think he had trouble writing two pages about that. He mentioned where he worked-there was a camera pointed on the registers at all times-where he spent most of his time at Big Lots. He also mentioned the web cams he has seen around the beach resorts and NYC. He got his second goody package from me yesterday which included two boxes of individually wrapped ‘Wet Ones’. He said he wouldn’t mind having some of those. ; )

Inside

Standard

I was taking photos of some of my vintage children’s books for a Flickr group I am in and decided to go around the house and do a few captures.

Blue glass
A collection of mostly light blue glass in the dining room window. The green glass is in the other window.

Curio table
I have a small curio table in the living room and it’s pretty full! I have the ‘heart of the ocean’ replica necklace from the movie Titanic plus a  collectible Titanic music box that my niece Tori gave me.

Stitching girl
One of my porcelain dolls. I use to have many more on display. She is special because she is Victorian and stitching! I actually did the little piece in her lap many years ago. Behind her is one of the ‘tree of life’ lithographs I’ve had since we were newlyweds. That is March for Brian and I have November for me.

Sean’s school photos
Sean’s brass school bus of all his school photos except his 12th grade one. Some are really unflattering, but I love them anyway!

Chocolate pepper?
And last but not least, I believe this is a chocolate pepper (color). I have some of it in my turkey meatloaf, but before I took a knife to it, I think it justified a photo.
I’ll be putting the rest of the house photos plus the vintage book photos in my Flickr album where there is a link in my sidebar.
