What to do for you know who

Standard

So that ‘big’ day is fast approaching. In a pipe dream a few months ago, I thought it would be nice to go to NYC for a few days. I also thought it would have been nice on our 25th in April too. Don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon. 2009 hasn’t been the greatest year for us in many ways. My son is still struggling to find employment. He got called Thursday night to go to a warehouse type place for an interview Friday. My son with the ‘B’ average in Geography/Climatology. He got there and they said it was only for a month and he was either to work in the bakery or the cashier line. And by the way, if you don’t hear from us, you didn’t get the job. Same thing happened at the shoe store. It has to get better!
I thought it would be nice to try a new restaurant at least. I asked on Face*book and my friend John mentioned a few places and a place a few towns over sounds good. And a cross stitch pal lives in the general area! Waiting to hear from her if she’s been there. Going out to eat is usually fine with me…and a nice cake. I don’t have sisters or a healthy mom, so no big surprises for me.
I’m doing better, was feeling a little sick again Friday morning, but popped another pill and had a big mug of tea and half a bagel. My guys have been food shopping-not one big order, bit 3 small ones and they always forget something. I can’t wait to get on my feet again. I sure hope I feel good on Monday to get my hair done. : )

Miss Piggy Here

I was really suffering with Montezuma’s revenge Thursday morning and called the doctor’s office to see what I could take. I waited and waited. That was 8:15. At 9:15 I called the pharmacist and she said to take Immodium. It worked and calmed my tummy down-thank goodness. I called the doctor’s office 3 times and they finally got back to me at 5:15 and 5:20-two different nurses. The one said it sounded like I had a touch of the swine flu! I thought maybe the seasonal flu, but she said it was too early. I could have had it worse, but this morning was a nightmare. I think Sean picked it up at the gym, as a few days later, while up at PSU, he was ‘very warm’ and had to turn the air on and then he was running to the bathroom all day. Yep-what a gift! I haven’t felt well since last Thursday.
The Nor’easter is stirring up many beach areas around here, mainly with inlet areas. It’s rain, gloom and wind around here.
Take care and stay healthy.

Just got my letter from the hospital radiology and it said my mammogram was normal! Yeah! Most mammogram machines are digital now, so not as uncomfortable. Don’t forget to get yours! Waiting on the ultrasound and pap, but I do have a follow-up on the 12th with the gyn.

Snaps from cellphones

Standard

I don’t think these are too bad for cellphones. I did lighten or enhance the color in PSP7 just to make them more visually appealing:

Enhanced with Abode.
This is right near Longwood Gardens. I wanted to capture the burnt umber of the corn/wheat fields against the dark orange fall leaves:

And our dinner at Chili’s last week for Sean’s birthday:

Those salsa and chips are so good! And they are a bottomless bowl!

The first few were my camera. This is Sean’s camera (more $) and I had to tweak it a lot more!

Halloween didn’t feel much like Halloween until we saw some trick or treaters in my mom’s hometown on the way home. It’s the first year I didn’t see my niece and nephew as they were with their friends.
Working at my mom’s was very draining. It was a rainy day, but in the low 70s, so humid. She says she does things, like go through slacks she stuffed in a big black bag. I had to take every pair out and hold them up and read the size and most of them she discarded! I think we loaded up three of those bags. She loves jackets and says she has about 70! She said she would pick the 20 or so she likes best. It’s so hard to do this. My brother was running across tons of old family photos and sent them home with me to scan. Brian came along and we set up our old dining room table and we all could sit together for a change and share pizza. Brian and Don need to hang a mirror in mom’s room and hang a ceiling fan in the dining room. I have to go and work in mom’s room next.
I’ll be scanning the photos over the next few weeks. Need to make some chili for dinner soon for Sean’s arrival from Penn State.

Family Ties-part 2

Standard

I’ve had this project put aside for a few months with the papers selected, many of which were given to me. The ‘canvas’ was a piece of wall art I found at Big*Lots for $2.00. It use to have sketchy looking toiletries on it. This was taken in the summer of 1967 as my younger brother was an infant. It was one of those Polaroids that was deteriorating and my face had a lot of damage. I used a photo effect to soften it and it doesn’t look bad. I am #2 in the line-up and only girl.

I made this one a few days ago. I was looking through a gardening catalog and ran across the peas.

Now the waiting game begins. I use to think after a few days I was fine, but I learned differently a few years ago. I give myself a week now. The ultrasound took a while. I had drank too much water and was asked to go to the bathroom in the middle of it too. If the doctor thinks I can have the embolization, I will probably go for it and hopefully feel better, do more and lose weight. Crossing fingers.

Family ties

Standard

I’m not going to go into things too much, but my mom is such a big part of my life-my constant worry about her is a daily issue . My middle brother is suppose to move in with her and now that he has a deadline (needs to move out of his apt which is going to get redone) he is pushing mom to get only two rooms cleaned out so he has some place to put his things. Now you all know mom is 79 and has health and eye issues. I feel for her in that respect. What bothers me is that she can’t seem to part with things. She says he has no right to tell her what to do in her own home. But if he was there, she’d be better off financially, probably have new floors and rugs and a updated kitchen among many other things-even maid service. He spent the summer and much money fixing up her yard-it has never looked nicer. My brother has a very vocal and often brash way of getting his point across, but I am glad that he is interested in taking over the family homestead. I talked to him over 2 hours yesterday. In fact I talked to 4 family members and we all want some kind of resolution-but the older folks, mom and uncle are clashing with the ‘younger’ folks. It’s not like mom’s house is picture perfect, she had vermin issues at one point and that was bad enough. She has all that stuff! I feel if most of it went away she wouldn’t miss it. So this has been on my mind.
I’m still doing my collage projects and getting together ideas for the book I hope to write. My friend said if I did larger canvases similar to the small art trading cards, I may be able to do a show in a Philly suburb gallery she is affiliated with! It would be nice to actually sell something I make. It’s really nice to have someone take an interest in something I do creatively.
Lots going on!
Who likes it when someone asks you what you want for your birthday? When I was 10 I knew, but at this age? I would still like to go to NYC, but maybe in early December.
Going for my mamm and ultrasound tomorrow. Please send me good vibes!

Days fly by

Standard

I don’t want to lose interest in my blog and wanted to stop by and touch base. Not too much new. Went to the doctor for an annual yesterday and was able to schedule the mamm and ultrasound for next Tuesday. I may be getting a procedure to make my life easier. I’ve been going to this particular office for at least 6 years and it was the first time I saw the head doctor, a nice man from Jamaica. I had to tell him my gr, gr grandfather was a French doctor in Jamaica (one of the first). If you saw my old photos last week, I’m talking about gr grandmom’s dad.

Today I am going to a bookstore with a coffee shop area to meet a lady I went to high school with to talk about possibly writing a children’s book together. She is a published author. We found each other on Face*book and since I mentioned one of my dreams would be to write a children’s book, she said we have to get together to brainstorm. I have a few ideas. I rather not discuss them here, but Lorin told me what the publishers are looking for and I live in an area where there is a large ethnic population of a certain group of people. Lorin has also found a few leads for Sean as she helps her students locate jobs. Needless to say, I’m a bit is shock and of course doubting myself about coming up with a good idea. Lorin is also an artist and could illustrate the book.

We have been following our Phillies and will cheer them on in the World Series for the second year in a row. A few nights ago, Sean and I were watching a game on pins and needles when Jimmy Rollins hit a 100 m.ph. ball in a gap to help the team win the game, we were jumping up and down. It’s a talented bunch and we feel they are going to win again for Harry*Kalas, one of the team’s announcers, who passed away this year.

Other than that, I’m working on getting my clothes sorted. I have a large space*bag of slacks to go through in the living room and found a few bins of clothes I haven’t looked at for a few years.

Have a great weekend, and I promise not to be a stranger on my own blog!

A Day in Bucks County, PA

Standard

A Day in Bucks County, PA
The three of us took a daytrip up to Bucks County, PA on Sunday to celebrate Sean’s birthday a wee bit early(it’s really the 24th). We thought he may have to work, but alas, he called the lady that ‘hired’ him from the grocery store and now she said they were in a ‘hiring freeze’. Very sad indeed. He is first on the list-so he hopes this is true info. The restaurant in Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, has the best Sunday brunch. Brian and I stumbled upon it 10 yrs ago when we went up in the same area to celebrate my 40th. From breakfast treats to craved meats and treats, everything is prepared (I think this is right) by culinary students. The village had a fun array of scarecrows/effigies on display from Scarecrow ‘crows’ to Michael Jackson. More are in my Flickr photo stream. It was a chilly and blustery day. My feet gave out early as I’m not use to wearing heels. I should have wore my sneakers. Sean and I plan to try and catch some of the autumn foliage in Lancaster one of these days. The leaves in Bucks were just changing a little and everything was wet looking.

I am using the larger of the two collages and I got cut out of the one with Brian. The building is the Bucks County Playhouse right on the Delaware River in New Hope, PA. This is where many of a celebrity did summer stock, even Tim Daly when he was a boy.

Photo Hunt-Anything goes

Standard

The hubs and I had a bit of a disagreement earlier this week. I said to him a day or so after it happened, that it would have been nice to get flowers or candy to patch things up. The next day he went out in some ugly weather to present me with these (even though it was my idea). I am glad that they are for a good cause-breast cancer awareness and Research gets a cut from the sale of such marked items. I’m going for my annual visit this week and will get the orders for my mammogram which is not routine anymore since I had a biopsy a few years ago. I was good the year after, but you always get nervous, you can’t help it. Knowledge is power!

Fall crops

Standard

About a month ago, I planted a variety of crops that like to grow in the cooler weather. Here is what I harvested on Sunday:
IMG_6226
A handful of arugula and tiny red radishes. There is a little lettuce, a sparse spinach seedling and if the beets are there, I don’t see them. I planted garlic and it’s starting to sprout in the container garden.
We may have had some frost last night, and I brought in some coleus at the last minute to save them.
Got my hair done and mom went out to dinner with us. This certain restaurant sometimes bothers me-I should know better that minestrone soup on an empty stomach is not a good idea. Unfortunately, I have had issues eating there before. Guess you have to figure out what places agree with you. Both Sean and me brought home most of our dinners.
I need to get to the grocery store-so that will be soon. My winter wardrobe is in bags all over my living room. I have my work cut out for me. I am anxious to get my sweaters and warmer clothes stored!
