I decided that I would love to see my favorite singer, James Taylor for an early birthday gift. I went online, and ordered two tickets-I just had to see him again-9 yrs is a long time. He’s playing The Tower Theatre, in Upper Darby, PA, near where I grew up. Brian’s been there many years ago, but not me. It’s James ‘One Man Band’ leg of his tour-just him and his keyboard player. Though I love all his backup singers and musicians, this is a special treat. It will be like he’s singing just for me. : ) This is happening on Oct 17th at 8:00 pm. The below photo was from the first One Man Band tour earlier this year. Thanks to JT MySpace for the photo.

A gift

My friend over on tribe.net made this for me. I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing it with you. I plan to print it out and frame it I love it so much. Thanks so much D.
In case you don’t know, that’s a collage of singer James Taylor from his early years on up. I have a ‘tribe’ for JT fans and I have tons of photos there that D. could use. And I’ve been a fan of JT’s since I’ve been 13, and that’s a long, long time. ; )
Happy Birthday JT!
Audio pleasures and difficulties
I pulled out the turntable tonight to listen to a record (remember those?) that Brian bought at a booksale and wants to sell. Talk about bringing back memories of my younger days! We both still have large collections-I’d say at least 300 total. A lot of them are in plastic tubs in the basement. The record sounded good, so I popped on another that I had bought and hadn’t listened to. It was a 99¢ one I bought in Doylestown at a record store a few years ago. I’m pretty sure all the Taylor siblings have recordings and this was of James’ late brother Alex. I can surely hear JT in his brother’s voice, the twangy country part that slips out of him once in a while. I feel bad because his brother passed on a few years back and it was a self-induced passing.
I then popped in a cassette and one of the first JT songs was about ‘Alice’, but it was really about ‘Alex’ (well being a big fan, I knew this). Funny that I listened to Alex’s lp and then happened to listen to ‘Hourglass’ that contained that song. I really enjoyed the music for over an hour.
My head has been terrible stopped up, well at least I thought it was. When the weather is chilly and then warms up, I’m in trouble most of the time. My ears were bothering me too, so I put some drops in them-to ‘soften up’ whatever is in there. Now tonight, I am hearing an echo which is strange. I tried to get all the wax medicine out with water. I hope it corrects itself without me having to go to the doctor. I may have cute little shell-shaped ears (that’s from my mom), but they have been troublesome off and on.
Today I decided since it was so nice I’d take a little drive to a local thrift shop. I was disappointed by the high prices and only bought one thing-a pink pressed glass bowl with a lid. When I got home I tackled 8 narcissus bulbs in a little side garden. Thank goodness the ground was soft. I then put some more garden things away. There is so much room in the shed now. Brian should have cleaned it out years ago.
The guys got homemade turkey meatballs and spaghetti for dinner.

Local tragedy
There had been three little boys missing in Camden, NJ since Wednesday night. They were 11, 6 and 5. Tonight they were found dead in an abandoned car that the police said they had checked the first night they were missing. So everyone is wondering if the police checked the trunk (the car was right next to one of the boy’s home in a grassy lot) or that someone killed them and snuck them in the trunk. This is so sad.
I never let Sean play outside by himself when he was young. Why were those little boys with an 11 year old? Why didn’t the older one have sense not to get into a trunk of a car? So many questions. You would think someone would hear them kicking on the lid of the trunk if they got stuck in there. It’s been warm here too. I just hope there isn’t foul play involved.
Sean rented ‘Ladder 49’ the Joaquin Phoenix (really ‘his’ movie) and John Travolta movie. The ending wasn’t what I expected, so I was bummed about that and then had to hear about the little Camden boys made me feel terrible for their families.
Earlier I was surfing from a James Taylor link (he is on the AOL screen tonight) and was reading up on Sally (JTs daughter) foundation called ‘The Tranquility Project’ which is to help do away with land minds around the world. The late Princess Diana was an advocate about this. Good work Sally and good luck with your natural food line called ‘Sally in the Raw’. She’s a cool lady. I had the privilege to see her in a free concert with her band a few years ago. I must be a long, lost cousin of that family because I feel so akin with many of them.
I’m following Abby’s blog about a 16 yr old guy named Zach down in Memphis who ‘came out’, telling his parents he was gay and only having them toss him in a place to ‘get the gay’ out of him called ‘Love in Action’ which is a load of crap. There’s a big protest going on to ‘Free Zach’. I hope it at least helps to get him out of there and closes the place down.
Happy Birthday JT…a few hours late
I actually did remember that James Taylor turned 57 on March 12th. Man, I can’t believe all my favorite guy singers are all the same age-Kenny Loggins and Dan Fogelberg too. I hope Dan is doing better-he has prostate cancer.
Talking about my guys up there being in their late 50s is like my mom talking about how much she liked Perry Como when she was my age. Different music of course, but reflecting on the aging process going on. I am just happy these guys are still making music and performing and that I’ve seen all of them in person (James-3xs). Thanks for the 30+ years of music guys…so far!
(trivia:Kenny Loggins and his second wife Julia got married in the buff!)
JT at the World Series
JamI’m a big James Taylor fan. I bought my first JT lp when I was 13 or 14 and have followed his career through his personal struggles and three wives and 4 children! I am not a fanatic, but I have seen JT 3xs over the yrs-’79, ’82 and ’97. I have even seen his daughter Sally perform in a free outdoor concert a few years ago. So I heard that JT sang the national anthem on Sunday night and I missed it! Thank goodness for the internet because Brian found the website and there was JT!
Oh say can you see…
Photoshopping a music legend

I was into photoshopping pictures for another site. The contest was to make a statue out of someone. This was suppose to be a statue of James Taylor near his home in Martha’s Vineyard. The real JT is looking out at the ocean behind the statue. I didn’t get the highest marks as it didn’t look very 3D, but it was my first try. Notice I snagged this image from the concert photo below. I also had to find 2 other images (the ocean and little JT) to make this work for me.
