Cape May finished!

Standard

Cape May design
Stitched off and on from about Jan/Feb ’06 until May 2007. Cape May by Valentine Stitchery stitched on Ocean Fantasy 28 ct. lugana.  (opps-it’s on a pillow, the top isn’t crooked). Think I’ll get this professionally framed when I find a coupon from Michaels or AC Moore.

Off to the dentist again…soon. I’m feeling eating ‘bad foods’ like donuts and grilled stuff. I should know better not to schedule the dentist after a holiday.
Sean’s car needs a starter and I hope we can pick it up today as I will probably be at the dentist an hour or more.
Update-OUCHIE! It was not a pleasant dental visit (gum scraping hurts). Sean’s car is still at the shop and he has my van. Here’s what I am doing to take my mind off my sore mouth:

White clematis in a pot (where should I plant this?); the orange flower from my window box; apricot nemesia; the first tiny leaves of my new waterlily; one of the first roses of the year; Japanese irises near the pond.

Gift for Karin

Standard

I don’t think my friend has enough time lately to check out my blog. She is going to be a bride in a month now and I get to see her as such! Anyway, her birthday is coming up on the 26th and I had stitched this years ago (and tucked it away) and it just seemed right for Karin. She is a chef in training and in love, so you can see it’s perfect.

Recipe for Happiness
I forget where I found the little pots, spatula and spoon, but the bowl, cherries and ‘garnish’ are from a Mary Englebreit leaflet I just found at a book sale. I framed it myself over the weekend. I also just framed Stitching Girl today and mailed off the above today too.

Update-Dr. B thought I was biting down on my filling so he sanded off some of the tooth. He said if it continues to bother me it may be a nerve problem-crossing fingers.

Here we go again

Standard

I had a dental appointment a few hours ago to repair a cavity. I just love sitting in the dentist’s chair when it’s this nice out. About 3 hours before my appt, I was sitting here chewing gum and felt a ‘crunch’ in my mouth. You guessed it, part of a tooth broke off-next to the cavity! So Dr. B drilled and drilled and said that my tooth’s structure wasn’t good and I have to get yet another crown! Bummer.

I’ll post some stitching pieces I’ve been working on soon (after my face isn’t numb anymore and I feel like taking photos). The one pattern of the old fashioned girl stitching is the same pal Su did. I ran out of the floss near the bottom so I have to get more. I also pulled out ‘The Cape’ of the Cape May, NJ shoreline and put a few stitches in that. I need to get that one finished!

One for the road, me in high school! I was 16.5 in this photo. Now why wouldn’t my crush give me a chance? ; )

4″ of rain Sunday

Standard

That nor’easter sure did blow in and is hanging around. That’s a lot of rain for a single day in these parts. Mom’s yard was like a swimming pool (so she told me) as my brother was preparing it for grass-the seed is surely gone now!

I made a nice roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese biscuits, which was very good and perfect for the cool, rainy weather. Brian peeled the potatoes and mashed them to perfection. I didn’t use the ricer as the russets had weird looking skin and I didn’t want to cook that.

I haven’t been up to par, I had indigestion Saturday, ate the Chinese food (uh oh), but slept ok. I had a sore stomach all day until I wised up and took a Tylenol. It felt better within a half hour. I tried mint tea, Gas-X and assorted tummy remedies when I probably had a muscle pull! My mom had had a wicked tummy thing on Easter and I am knocking wood that I avoided that one.

So here is what I made today. I am using old flower, bird and kid’s books (shown mostly in the first example). I hate to cut them up, but I feel I am giving them new life through art. The second card has a definition for ‘dreaming’. I was using the water sphere from the flower show and rubberstamped a face on it, but the embossing power was put on thick and melted too much, hence an entire new idea crept up in my brain. The children were part of a CD collection I found on eBay.

Why do stars shine?

These were photographed on a trio of cute wicker chests my mom gave me for Easter that I am using to store a lot of my art supplies in.

And last, but not least…my latest cross stitched piece, a The Prairie Schooler church for Su’s neighborhood (see link in sidebar).

Let there be heat!

Standard

The furnace was installed today from 8:30-2:45. The guys disappeared though from 10:15-11:00 (I think they took an early lunch break or something) and left the door that leads outside (in the basement) wide open and it was only in the 40s today. I promptly closed it. The house stayed around 65, not bad. I thank Mister Sunshine for that. I did wear a heavy sweater all day. The heat was turned on around 2:40 and by 3:00 it had warmed up to 70 in here! One thing we didn’t like that they didn’t do was to give up a new oil filter and hooked a dirty one up to a new furnace. I told Bri to complain about it as we paid a lot for the furnace, plus they charged us for the first guy walking in the door who said we needed a new one in the first place. He could have given us a new filter.

As I don’t like having strangers in my house, especially in my messy basement, I didn’t do much around here except to clean the granite countertops and make some art trading cards.  I also had to keep the cat calmed down. I woke up before 7 with my sinuses still bothering me. I’m hoping I’ll feel better now, that all of us will. : )

I’m almost done a very detail cross stitch quilt square and will share it when it’s completed in a few days. I have a pal in Ireland who does the charity quilt squares and she just had her second back surgery. Imagine lying on your back and stitching! She sent me a note last week and said she believes there is improvement because of the operation. I sent her back a note with a few ATCs I made for her. I didn’t photograph them, but I have a bunch to share with you-soon.

Sean and I need to get the new cellphone for Bri as a birthday gift and I need to wrap what I have for him. He said I’m hard to buy for! No way!

JT and NRR

Standard

First of all, Happy Birthday to my favorite singer, James Taylor who turns 59 today!!

JT on tour 2006

Then a finished design for our Neighborhood round robin. It’s for Carol in New Hampshire. This was a bit difficult for me, but I was up for the challenge as Carol wanted flowers galore on her project. The hummingbird and kitty were added as requested. There were 42 colors used.

You’ll be seeing more Flower show photos along the way too when I am wondering what to post about. : )

For Becky

Standard

I wanted a photo for Becky to show my appreciation for her lovely ‘giveaway’ on her blog. I am really happy with it as you can see.

Me with my lovely cross stitch win

My hair is just pulled back. I had a photo contest between Sean and Bri and Brian’s won!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sean is changing his major to Geography. He can’t handle all the math like Trig that the Earth Science major says he has to take. I’d love for him to do something with graphics/advertising. He use to make the best posters for his projects and many of the teachers asked if they could keep them. I have a feeling that he isn’t finishing ‘switching’ yet.
Some gifties
Standard
Since Dawn received her gifts, I thought you’d like to see what I made for her:
Snow lady for Dawn
She loves snowmen, so I stitched up a snowlady! The snow is clear beads.
Cat embellished photo album
She likes kitties too. I used my trusty old desk calendar yet again! Nothing goes to waste. See Cos on there too?
And last but no where near least is this beautiful stained box with the top that was stitched and finished by Becky—->
I won it!
She filled it with lovely floss and I always need it as I stitch a bunch for charity. The funny thing is I call Sean my ‘good egg’ and made a ATC for him with that expression. He is my only child. ; )
I absolutely am thrilled to pieces and love it! Thanks for picking me Becky!!
A beautiful win from Becky
