Showing some JT love

Standard

This is a screen capture of James and his only daughter and eldest child, Sally about 9 years ago in Milan. She sang with her dad here. We got to see Sally with her own group about 5 yrs ago.
And this is one of the little Taylors-not his grandson, but one of his five yr old twins either Henry or Logan. James had won the Musicare award this year and this was probably after the ceremony. I hope to get the DVD of the event-hint-hint guys!

Why do I like JT so much-because I’ve listened to him since I’ve been 13. : )

I’m so excited!

Standard

Even though this will be the fourth time (third for Brian, God bless him) I’ve seen James Taylor, I can’t wait until 8 pm! I’ve seen him with my brother Don back in 1979; Bri in ’82 before we were married; and then with Bri and Sean in ’97. Those concerts were at the Mann Music Center in Philly-partially indoors with lawn seating too. Tonight should be like a private concert (well almost) as it’s just JT and his keyboard player. I’ll update this post later.
Update-We had a nice evening with James even though the traffic on 69th St near the Tower Theater was stalled for about 15 minutes and I thought for sure we’d be late. He didn’t come on stage until 8:20 anyway. I had a clear view of him for about 45 minutes until the couple in front of us showed up. Then it was hard to see as the guy had his arm around his girlfriend and invaded my personal space-so I moved over. I guess we were about 75-80 feet from the stage.
It was a nice chat, show some photos on a big screen and sing about what he just talked about kind of show. He opened with ‘Something in the Way She Moves’. He brought this contraption out that was a computer programmed drum set basically (I read in a review that he had built it himself!). He sang a song ‘Slap Leather’ through a bullhorn-too funny! I liked when he showed a short video of his nephew James as a tyke before he sang the song he wrote for him called ‘Sweet Baby James’. People think that’s JT’s nickname.
James had a video of the chorus that his wife Kim is in and he sang along to ‘Shower the People’ and ‘Traveling Star’ with them. When he was on ‘Saturday Night Live’ many years ago, he sang along to a reel to reel tape recorder (of famous singers at the time) to ‘Shower the People’.
We scooted out before he sang his second encore which I think was ‘You Close Your Eyes’. The area where the theater is located is a little run down now, so we got ahead of the mass of people and got home by 11:45 even after stopping for milk and bread.

My mom is having cataract surgery at the beginning of December. Yesterday was the day she had all the drops put in her eyes, not the day I went with her. She had to sit a while afterwards, but she found her way to the mall where she purchased Sean some birthday gifts. That guy is so hard to buy for! I have a few things for him-some coming in the mail. I hope the shirt will be the correct size. Not sure if the size pull-down menu even recorded the correct size. Guess I’ll find out in a few days.

I had Jehovah’s Witness people ring my doorbell twice before 10 this morning. I’m not dressed as I have to shower, but that’s a great way to get them moving on their way. They haven’t been on my front step in years.

It’s a rainy day here too-drats! I hope it clears a bit by the time we have to leave.

MySpace

Standard

I was watching My Name is Earl last night-I think it’s pretty comical. At the end of the show they said if you wanted your chance to be the sombero wearing person on the closing credits, you have to go to MySpace and make Earl your friend. I never turn down a chance to be on tv-though I stand a bat’s chance in heck to be chosen, but you never know. So I joined. Sean’s an old pro and helped me set up my account and background, etc. I even have singer James Taylor (or whoever does his webstuff) as a friend. I feel a bit old there. I got an invite to an event which turned out to be the naked bottom of a lady-haha. I won’t be opening any more emails from them. Another person asked me if I was ‘bi’. Hey sister, read my blasted profile. Do I look bi to you? Anyway, I feel it’s not as much fun as blogger and tribe, but since I like musicians, etc. you can check out their profiles for their latest info. I just found out that JT is coming to a Philly suburb next month-maybe we can go. If you are on MySpace already, I’ll be your pal.
It’s a wet, cool 1st of September. I made beef stew with garlic cheese biscuits-a good meal for today. I think the weekend is a wash-out so far. I can always find something to do! I’m not one to twiddle my thumbs. : ) Have a good one!

A gift

My friend over on tribe.net made this for me. I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing it with you. I plan to print it out and frame it I love it so much. Thanks so much D.
In case you don’t know, that’s a collage of singer James Taylor from his early years on up. I have a ‘tribe’ for JT fans and I have tons of photos there that D. could use. And I’ve been a fan of JT’s since I’ve been 13, and that’s a long, long time. ; )

Audio pleasures and difficulties

Standard

I pulled out the turntable tonight to listen to a record (remember those?) that Brian bought at a booksale and wants to sell. Talk about bringing back memories of my younger days! We both still have large collections-I’d say at least 300 total. A lot of them are in plastic tubs in the basement. The record sounded good, so I popped on another that I had bought and hadn’t listened to. It was a 99¢ one I bought in Doylestown at a record store a few years ago. I’m pretty sure all the Taylor siblings have recordings and this was of James’ late brother Alex. I can surely hear JT in his brother’s voice, the twangy country part that slips out of him once in a while. I feel bad because his brother passed on a few years back and it was a self-induced passing.
I then popped in a cassette and one of the first JT songs was about ‘Alice’, but it was really about ‘Alex’ (well being a big fan, I knew this). Funny that I listened to Alex’s lp and then happened to listen to ‘Hourglass’ that contained that song. I really enjoyed the music for over an hour.
My head has been terrible stopped up, well at least I thought it was. When the weather is chilly and then warms up, I’m in trouble most of the time. My ears were bothering me too, so I put some drops in them-to ‘soften up’ whatever is in there. Now tonight, I am hearing an echo which is strange. I tried to get all the wax medicine out with water. I hope it corrects itself without me having to go to the doctor. I may have cute little shell-shaped ears (that’s from my mom), but they have been troublesome off and on.

Today I decided since it was so nice I’d take a little drive to a local thrift shop. I was disappointed by the high prices and only bought one thing-a pink pressed glass bowl with a lid. When I got home I tackled 8 narcissus bulbs in a little side garden. Thank goodness the ground was soft. I then put some more garden things away. There is so much room in the shed now. Brian should have cleaned it out years ago.
The guys got homemade turkey meatballs and spaghetti for dinner.

Martha is mass producing…

Standard

Her infamous ‘coming home’ poncho! I was just visiting her website and there it was up for sale at $49.99 with the red being sold out. Don’t worry, she is donating all the money from the sales of the ponchos to charities like Katrina. I thought that was pretty cool.
Will I make this poncho? I don’t know. I do like to crochet, but I have a few other ponchos and am not sure if I will add another to my collection. The others aren’t homemade. I made a wool poncho once in high school and I hardly wore the thing!

A neat shot of my old classmate

Standard

Thanks to my pal Julie out in California who actually got to see a filming of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in the L.A., CA. area. She is actually in this photo but she cut herself out. : (

What is neat about this photo-Paul is wearing a t-shirt from our old school-Penncrest. I think the casting agents who were at the local mall (behind Penncrest) probably were given this to give to Paul.

Julie says he and the rest of the cast were really nice and spoke to her and the other people watching quite a bit.

EM:HE may be in this area as mentioned above, so I’d love to meet them too. Crossing fingers.
