People from Delaware County

So I actually edited the last eleven people on Wikipedia-yeah! (I added a few more)

I just got to be on Jamie Kennedy’s friend list on MySpace (along with like 2 million other people) and saw on Wikipedia that he was from Upper Darby along with who I already knew, Tina Fey and Cheri O’Teri. My mom saw Monica Horan perform at UDHS a few years back. She was in Everybody Loves Raymond as Amy the sister-in-law.

Thomas Wilson is from Radnor-remember Biff from Back to the Future?

(Media-smack in the middle there, that piece of pie).

My hometown county
You could make a poster using Jamie Kennedy’s movie poster on MySpace…this was my silly shot that night we were taking photos of me in my new apron.
For Jamie Kennedy!

Touched by an angel and reality producer wed

Mark and Roma

Roma Downey (47) married Mark Burnett(46) in Malibu lately. I like it when people my age find love again. I really like Roma, not only because of her angel role, but she is really lovely and classy too. Della Reese, who co-starred in the Touched by an Angel show is a minister and married the couple. The little girl is Roma’s 10 yr old daughter Reilly.

I’m sitting here with the noon news on and they just reported that a terrorist plot was broken up in New Jersey today. They wanted to storm Fort Dix and kill as many military personnel  as they could. All I can say is thank God!

BBC America’s Robin Hood

Standard

I really like BBC America. I can be flipping channels and there is that slim chance of a rerun or nothing good is on,  so I can usually always count on some good Brit humor or drama at BBC America. They have a Robin Hood series on  right now and it’s quite good and entertaining. I really like Sir Guy and Maid Marian, not to say that the chap who plays Robin Hood isn’t good (he is reminding me of Charlie from LOST), but darn that Errol Flynn, I have an image of a bigger man in my head. Everyone is actually quite good.

Sir Guy is played by extremely handsome Richard Armitage and Maid Marian is played by 20 yr old Lucy Griffiths. The Sheriff reminded Sean of Billy Joel!  Try to catch the show-it’s worth a look.

Richard Armitage as Sir Guy of Gisbourne

And he’s the ‘bad’ one-can you tell?

Why did you get bitten by the Jenny Craig bug? Valerie Bertinelli wants to lose 30 pounds because she is a ‘size 14’-crap, that’s my size…sometimes! ; ) I bought the newest copy of People that features her on the cover. I am 5 months older than her. Go ahead, show a photo of her from 1980 when she was 20. I want to look like I did when I was 20, but it’s not going to happen. Gravity has set in a few areas of my body. Skin is also at these places where it wasn’t before. I mean, she has a cute face and her bod looks fine and she has a new man. She or her son Wolfie (Wolfgang) mention eating an entire bag of Doritos! That’s not going to help. I have cravings myself. The worst thing for me to do is watch ‘The Food Network’ if I am even the slightest bit hungry. Good luck Val (who is from Wilmington, DE).

The heater guy is coming to adjust the furnace. It bangs almost every time it  comes on or shuts off. I set it to 68, it heats the place to 72. When we had it installed last month, they didn’t even look at the upstairs thermostat. And guess what-they better not send me a bill!

Keeping warm and cozy in April-and tearing my hair out! ; )

Ancestors and things

I went down and met my mom at the hospital thrift shop. I was there browsing when she called and said she was finally finished up with her doctor’s appointment. She needs to get quite a few tests, one of which is a mammogram. I don’t know why she needs to be put through some of the others like a nuclear stress test and an MRI-I can almost guarantee she won’t be able to hack the treadmill at almost 77. She had a MRI several years ago and was in the machine for 1.5 hours without moving. They’d have to drug me for that one. She said there is an ‘open model’ in a place about 20 minutes from her house. She worries the heck out of me-so thin, hardly eats (I took her for an early dinner and she only ate the hamburger and not the bun at Ruby Tuesday), her house has so much in it, things that could be discarded. My brother and his pals did a ton more in her yard then I thought. I’ll have to take photos next time. She has old pine trees (that my grandfather Alan planted in the 50s) and they took out 6 dead ones and trimmed many from the bottom up-no privacy now. Ken happen to stop over and I suggested bushes along the neighbor’s fences. He was not thrilled by this. I came home and found a tick crawling up my pant leg. Mom’s yard was disturbed, so I’m thinking it came from there. Talk about taking one’s clothes off quickly! When you’ve been deathly ill from a tick, you don’t play with fire!

What I got at the thrift shop-a real old flour sifter (ok I’ll take photos!) and an old musical sewing box.

Below is a photo (taken with my camera!) of my great grandfather William Hasselberg and his siblings that mom gave me a copy of today. The third man over is the great grandfather (Charlie) of my cousins with the store Dane Decor I mentioned a few posts back. My mom thinks this is from the 1930s-40s and was taken in Bohemia, Maryland. When I see Bette Midler, I think of her husband, Martin Van Hasselberg. Also, Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s husband must be a distant relative.

Great grandfather William

My great grandfather is the first one!

Going on to other things and a weird coincidence-aren’t you glad you know who Dannielynn belongs to? I mean she looks just like her real father. I was looking up Larry Birkhead to see how old he was (34) and then clicked on the link to Anna Nicole Smith who was born November 28th, the same as my brother Don. Here’s the weird thing-her father’s name is Donald Eugene Hogan and my brother’s name is Donald Gene!

And then a hero comes along…

…John Wood.

John Wood-book crusader

I almost didn’t watch Oprah today. I turned it on while our girlfriend was interviewing Mr. Wood about his program to end worldwide illiteracy called Room to Read (second is linked to Oprah).

Room to Read

A former big wig at Microsoft, Mr. Wood went to Nepal on a trip and found poor conditions in a school there-overcrowded and most of the pupils couldn’t read. He vowed to go back in a year with books and he kept his promise-I was in awe with him-got the warm fuzzies big time!  Now his org is building libraries and schools all over the world. Many people in the small communities are learning to make bricks and to build themselves! Check out the link and maybe make a $5 donation (I plan to donate something).

For two days and for a few hours,  I did garden clean up. Brian cleaned up the piles after dinner each night. I think I am wearing him out! Last night we moved the big hollyhock that was across from the front door. It broke into 3 pieces so hopefully I have three new plants. I know a tree near where we just planted it gets rust or whatever fungus it is and hollyhocks are prone to get it. We planted the hollyhocks in my iris bed. The iris have spread a little. I am hoping to give some to my mom as I have some gorgeous ones. This is reminding me to go order from the same company as I won their photo contest last year (Aug. 06) and I better use the coupon soon!

Getting my hair done late in the afternoon. I think my mom is staying over to go to the gyn with me. I could go by myself, but she wants to lend support. I have some issues, but just doing all this yardwork has made me stronger (and a bit achy) over the last few days.

Stuff from Nov. 19th

Standard

Saw this on Pea’s blog and thought I’d give it a try. I know a lot of weird stuff happened on my birthday.

1) Go to Wikipedia
2) In the search box, type your birth month and day but not the year
3) List three events that happened on your birthday
4) List two important birthdays and one death
5) One holiday or observance (if any)

1863American Civil War: Union President Abraham Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address at the military cemetery dedication ceremony in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

1997 – In Des Moines, Iowa, Bobbi McCaughey gives birth to septuplets in the second known case where all seven babies were born alive. (this could be under birthdays too-these kiddos will be 10 this year!!!!)

2006 – Launch of the Nintendo Wii.

Birthdays

1917Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India (d. 1984)

1959Allison Janney, American actress-the exact year too!

Death

1988Christina Onassis, daughter of billionaire Aristotle Onassis (b. 1950)

And holy ‘crap’

Spring is really trying to make an appearance

So much so I had Cosmo the cat out on his harness and we were enjoying the 67 degrees on this sunny, but a bit of a breezy day. The weather is kinda whacking us out-40s one day, 60s the next. We all feel a little congested. Life goes on.

So happy to report my mom says she’s been feeling better over the last few days. She is taking chewable adult vitamins and seems peppier. I’m hoping she keeps up her vitamin regimen. She did say she looked at herself in the mirror and didn’t like what she saw. I guess the first step for anyone is them making the move for their own benefit.

I was sad to hear that Elizabeth Edwards’ cancer has returned in her bone. I hope she gets excellent treatment. The Presidential campaign for John will go on it seems.

Bob Woodward and his wife Lee were on Ellen DeGeneres’ show and I swear I tear up every time they show that film footage when he is slow dancing with Lee and wearing a helmet to protect his head last year. He says on the video, “I can dance but I can’t talk.” Lee just looks at him very lovingly.

Sean and Brian are on my ‘S’ list tonight. They have a habit of tossing a football (!) down the hallway in our little ranch house. I ask them to not do that or they’ll break something. Well tonight they broke a gift from a friend. I need a new frame for it. Made me so angry that all my pleading falls on deaf ears. I told Bri I try not to be into material things, but the gift came all the way from the midwest and didn’t get broken until tonight. I told him I was going to go knock his beloved trains on the floor and he said that would be ‘just mean’. I think meanness is not listening to someone who is making perfect sense. Sean and I are going to get him a gift tomorrow and frankly I don’t really feel like it now, but I will.

Tomorrow is another day, thank goodness!

First of all, Happy Birthday to my favorite singer, James Taylor who turns 59 today!!

JT on tour 2006

Then a finished design for our Neighborhood round robin. It’s for Carol in New Hampshire. This was a bit difficult for me, but I was up for the challenge as Carol wanted flowers galore on her project. The hummingbird and kitty were added as requested. There were 42 colors used.

Carol’s NRR

You’ll be seeing more Flower show photos along the way too when I am wondering what to post about. : )

Sean rented a bunch of movies to celebrate his official start of spring break. I said, go ahead and get ‘Borat’ as I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. There was a certain much talked about scene involving nakedness and it was rather lewd-or just plain gross and we must admit, a little comical.

I think the concept of a foreigner coming to the good old USA has been done before (Moscow on the Hudson with Robin Williams?). This had its funny moments and the critics liked it. Sasha Baron Cohen (I think of the little ice skater all the time when I see his name), is one peculiar fellow. At first when he was making the tv circuits for the movie promo, I thought he was the real deal, that he was like Borat, he was that good. Then I found out he was a British comic who does a number of characters. How he acted and what he said at the awards show (he won a Golden Globe!) was a little disrespectful to everyone listening. I am pretty sure he and his girlfriend mouthed the words F U when the camera came on them at the Academy Awards. Hey Sasha, maybe this is your 15 minutes of fame and do you want to be remembered as a jerk?

Don’t get me wrong, I love British humor-have been a fan of Monty Python’s for ages. I don’t remember any of them acting that way in public and they all kept a pretty low key persona.

The movie was funny-one of the best parts-when he walked into a Christian revival meeting and said he wanted to be saved. He then asked the minister if Jesus loved his brother down to his neighbor who he hated. He said that no one loved his neighbor even ‘Mister’ Jesus.

Borat-nice, I like!
