On the run again

Standard

There was another flea market this week near mom’s. I love going to them this time of year before the foul weather envelopes us. I had just made that trip on Friday, but something had come in the mail for mom (jewelry), so I decided to go down. Mom wanted to actually walk around a flea market! This is the first time in a long time the two of us have been out together. The flea market wasn’t as big as the one we went to a few weeks ago. The first thing I bought was a small Penn State banner for Sean for a big ol’ $1. I was happy to get it for him. We each bought some things that caught our eye, my most expensive things were two Cherished Teddies figurines. The lady had so many cute ones it was hard to chose.
I want to make some Halloween items, so we headed to A.C. Moore. As I went in the door, a woman and I met eyes and I knew who she was right away. She looked away and went inside. So Cathy Simms from Penncrest HS, I remembered you!
We were in there a little while and then I asked if we could try JoAnns for the little fake pumpkins I needed since ACM didn’t have them. The JoAnns moved into this huge, beautiful store just this past Friday and they had everything I needed, plus some! I am getting that crafting bug again.
Mom and I went to McDonalds (I am going to blow up) and I watched a mentally challenged lady my age lick her fingers after every bite of food. I swear, I will be making ‘Sunday pot roast’ soon, after the sales. We saw another woman in there, dressed in a Henry Fonda outfit like from ‘In Golden Pond’ with the puffy vest and fisherman’s hat (it was in the high 70s today). Mom recognized her from the hospital thrift shop where she had cornered mom to talk politics-mumbo jumbo. I would have said, ‘get lost you crazy you know what’. You see all kinds.
Well my son made a face over the PSU banner asking where he would put it. I could have said ‘someplace’, but I refrained to use that language. Later, I gave him the only birthday gift I had bought him so far, a PSU license plate. I told him since he made such a stink over the little banner, no way was I saving the license plate for October. He commented, I shouldn’t spend the money and that he may not be going to the school in a few years. He isn’t taking to college life that well yet. He’s in the newspaper club (a good start), but he doesn’t stick around to meet people. Good luck son.

Funky Memorial Day

Standard

Ever have one of those days that just happen to be a ‘holiday’ and you don’t feel like ‘getting into at least part of the celebration? Sean did-in a way. He went up to the next town’s parade and took some photos. I stuck some flags around. Brian char-cooked and ruined the meat we had for dinner. And it was the second time he had cooked this cut of meat that way. Like we didn’t learn from the first time not to cook it on the grill. I actually wanted burgers but he had defrosted the meat and that was that. Before the grilling disaster, Sean and I ran down to the mall so he could get some dress pants. He needed a larger size then the ones he had and he picked out some nice navy blue ones. He is going to the Senior dinner dance on 6/3. We also had to get a battery for the cordless phone and my digital camera at good ol’ Radio Shack. The phone battery was the wrong one, so I have to take it back. I checked out this one department store’s outdoor plant area and nabbed some 4-packs of flowers for about 95¢ each. I needed some more portulaca (finally got that spelling correct) and I got some pretty salvia-a dark purple and burgundy. Sean used all my celosia, so I bought some more of that too.
On the way home we stopped in Walmart so Sean could apply for a job on their in store computer. He has no previous job experience so he just put in the volunteer work that he did for his graduation project. He had helped out at a nature center in Delaware last summer.
I really was in the mood to do some flower planting before it rained. It’s been like this for the last three days. It’s nice, it gets dark and cooler and then in the late afternoon it rains. I managed to repot my geraniums and pot up some planters for the front step. I used mainly fancy coleus, salvia and a few other trailing plants. The planters I used didn’t have drainage last year and the potting soil got muddy. Brian poked some holes in them this year. I don’t think the same thing will happen this year as they are planted very tightly with the new plants. I’ll post a photo soon.
The cat pooed on me this evening as the last straw for such a weird day. He jumped on me, I was snuggling with him and felt ‘wet’ on my t-shirt. There were little brown spots on me and it wasn’t vomit. Cossy was embarrassed. Tomorrow has just got to get better!

Udderly Smooth

Standard

When you find a product you like recommend it! I had gotten some of this up in ‘cow country’ (Lancaster County) and just found a big jar of it at Trader Joes. My cuticles and feet get really dry in the wintertime and this works nice, especially my tootsies. Shopping Maniacs

Standard

Never believe a shopaholic when she says ‘let’s go to Walmart for 1/2 hour’. That’s a lame line. And the so called shopaholic is a size 8 so there are tons of clothes for her on the sale rack. I did well myself-some nice pants, a suede like top in dark peach, some stretchy tops, Austrian crystal jewelry sets and a watch with interchangable leather bands-all for $1-$5. I try to be careful about what I buy, but these buys were so good. The damn watch was only $3. I had trouble interchanging the band this morning. I ended up digging into the holes with the end of my embroidery scissors where the little spring thingies have to fit. I was shaking my wrist and the watch flew off. It’s actually ok now. The pants are a little tight around my tummy bulge-darn jelly belly, never looked the same after Sean tummy! Mom was blue today, she’s always this way after seeing me, plus she asked her boarder to leave as he was holding back portions of his measly rent to her. She’s put up with him for almost 4 yrs now. None of her kids want him there. He has the mentality of a 12 yr old (but very smart except for math), but he can’t see beyond his own crooked glasses.
~~Snow galore! Over 8 inches we think. Sean had off and it didn’t start to snow and stick until after 11am. He loves to sleep in. I have to get out and take some photos tomorrow.
~~~I had a weird dream this morning. I dreamed I was at a school or church function and helping with the food. When it was my time to eat, all the ‘crappy’ food was left and people were talking about me behind my back. I actually had a tear run down my face while I was lying in bed this morning. Now if I analyze this myself, it may be I am feeling self-conscious because of my ‘roots’ showing or that my brother told my mom that Brian and I looked fat. (Or hormones?)He said this to me 3 yrs ago when Mom, Sean and I went down to visit him. Nothing like saying something positive about a person. He is a jerk sometimes. He’s looking for his third job in a year’s time. He has a fat head.
Shopping fix…finally
Standard
Since we were stuck in last weekend because of the snow, Sean and I took a drive down to Kohl’s in Delaware. Lo and behold, they were having an 80% off sale-woo hoo! I will say a lot of the clothes were picked over, but I looked and looked and sniffed out a black cashmere sweater! And it was only $15.60 and had a price of $88 on it. I think I got lucky because it was marked a size or two bigger than I normally get. I actually tried it on over my other top and it is maybe a little loose, but it’s comfy. Heaven. I scored some other tops, a really sexy black one with black lace sleeves for one. Brian liked that one. I also got some really pretty jewelry for dirt cheap. I picked out a few tops and jewelry for my mom too. I think my total bill would have been the original price of 1 3/4 cashmere sweaters! What brought the bill up were the two Eagles championship t-shirts Sean bought for himself and his dad. I need to hit Boscovs or Strawbridges next to be truly happy that I got my bargain/shopping fix. : )
Finally…a new desk
Standard
The guys didn’t come home with a new desk yesterday, but a new black leather chair-for giants! It can’t be lowered so my short legs and feet can touch the floor. I think Brian didn’t do something right, because this is the first chair that I felt like I was getting a haircut in which couldn’t be lowered. Thank goodness it was basically free (we had a gift card-thank you f-in-l for that) and I have a cute little stool under my tootsies.
Today we took a drive down to Wally World (Walmart) and were about to get the armoire style with the fake wood grain in brown. We saw they had the black armoire with the fake wood grain and it was $88 and missing the top portion the other one had but it was like $60 cheaper. Bingo! We were taking too long making up our minds when another customer came over and started to look at the solo black one that was left. I said really loud, well that figures and flopped down in a computer chair (where I could touch my feet to the ground!) and maybe the guy took the hint and left! Whew! So Brian got a salesman and paid for the desk while I got a new trashbin with wheels and scurried around the 50% off area collecting a few rolls of wrapping paper and mini ornaments for something I want to make and sell for next year. I found some new things for January birthdays (my brother and pal in Colorado were both born on January 8th). I love a good sale! I did hit a sale yesterday and got some Snowbabies I liked for 33% off.
Brian got busy assembling the armoire after dinner and 3 hours later it’s not all the way done, but almost. Cosmo was really marking his territory by rubbing his mouth on various parts of it.
So the room is a mess until we get it set up. I suggested we put the old one in the drive and put a ‘FREE’ sign on it, but he’d rather haul it to the Goodwill. Oh well. I have a slight headache which I am blaming on the armoire’s pressed particle board.
My brother Ken called to say the package from our brother Don had come from Florida last night and asked if Sean was still looking for a car. We said ‘yes’. He said he had a ’98 or ’99 Ford Taurus where he worked and would check it out for us. I called tonight to see if he had and he was home sick today from a bad migraine and vomiting from it. He was sick exactly a year ago today when he was suppose to come out here for lunch and present opening. Weird.
Mom went to see her old friend Barbara who was up from South Carolina and staying at her daughter Adrienne’s house not far away. Jim is also a friend of hers. They went to an Irish style restaurant and had prime rib. Adrienne and her teen son Ryan are headed to Ireland tomorrow where they have friends and family. Cool.
Shopping maniacs…not me!
Standard
Black Friday-forget it! I went out one year to Target and it was crazy, so I vowed never to venture out on that day again. Is it just getting really insane or what? People out at 3 am waiting in line for hours to get gifts their kids don’t even probably need or really want. It’s not like when I was a kid-that sounds cliched, I know. I was one of 4 and the only girl. When we got toys for Christmas, we played with them until they wore out!
Having an 18 yr old, I really don’t need to face the crowds anymore. I’ve been just as happy parking my butt in front of the computer and buying from favorite onlines stores like Amazon and Spilsbury. I plan to check Overstock.com and a few others this year too. I have a little niece and nephew, but I have gotten gifts for them already. I use to go overboard and their mom and dad got steamed. I have older nephews, but Circuit City or Best Buy gift cards will be fine for them.
I think we are forgetting the true meaning of Christmas with all this hustle and bustle. Personally, I prefer handmade gifts because the giver put time in the gift just for me.
