Yeah Abigail!

Standard

I was flipping channels after our dinner fiasco last night and found the Critic Choice awards. Abigail Breslin from ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ received an award for ‘Best Young Actress’. The teen who played her brother won for ‘Best Young Actor’. The movie won a few more awards too.

Update 1-23

Looks what 10 yr old is a nominee for a Best Actress Oscar!

Could Abigail pull a Tatum O’Neal and win an Oscar as a child?
Woo hoo!

So after church Sean wanted to go to a new Olive Garden down near Christiana, Delaware. When we got there it was mobbed and there was a hour to an hour and 45 minutes wait. Needless to say, we left. All the three other restaurants we tried were packed. It was cold as heck last night and we thought people would stay in their nice warm houses-wrong!  We finally went into a crowded place at 6:45 which was like diner. Some older man was in line and for some reason said; ‘women don’t want to cook anymore’. I thought that was totally uncalled for. What we had was fair-my turkey was dry around the edges. I have a whole turkey to cook down in the freezer and should get that out and make a yummy hot turkey sammie that I won’t let dry out. Is there any good restaurant food anymore?I’m still working on bags and boxes from the basement. I am going through gift wrap, bows, tags, etc. I got rid of a huge bag of squooshed bows, wrinkled wrap and tissue, you name it! I see a slight improvement.

Now what?

Standard

One of those weeks that are not very pleasant for my family. Between me and my teeth, my uncle fracturing his right hip and now my mom getting an ‘abnormal’ electrocardiogram as a pretest for her cataract surgery. The doctor wants to compare this cardio to a previous one and possibly she’ll have to have another one. She was a little scared, but she’s under a lot of stress because of my uncle and of course thinking about her surgery. She took heart meds for over 20 years for an extra heartbeat. She doesn’t complain about chest pain or palpations. Please wish her well.

Oy vey
Holy Toledo! I was in the dentist’s chair from 1-5 today! Dr Cutie Pie B. Oh yeah, he is cute!decided to ‘do it all’ in one visit. Every freaking corner of my mouth was worked on. The worst was left for the last-a crown was taken off (felt like like a lightbulb breaking in my mouth) to repair a cavity on a dead tooth under there. I have a temp crown until the 29th and I hope it stays on. I had 4 fillings and a chip fixed. I was shot up with Novacaine 3 times and also lasered (my poor gum under the crown had to be lasered away a bit along with two of the cavities). I just took Tylenol as my numbness is receding a bit.

Not to just talk about my own sorry self-My Uncle is in the hospital as he took a spill and hurt his hip. My Mom left a message here around 3 and that’s all anyone knows as we can’t get in touch with her. I’ll keep you posted.

~Update-My Uncle did fracture his hip and is having surgery tomorrow to repair it. He is so unsteady on his feet at times. I just hated leaving him last night. I’m wondering if he goes back to the rehab place? My mom told his stepdaughters (who live close to him) that she isn’t well and has her eye surgery coming up. I think even though UD hasn’t been nice to them lately, they will help for my mom’s sake.

Off to veg and watch the Golden Globes.

Run around

Standard

Sean and I decided to go down to my Mom’s and to also drop off my brother Ken’s birthday gift (his b/d was on the 8th). So we got there and Mom was just beat. She is getting herself in a terrible stew over her impending cataract surgery coming up on the 25th. She isn’t eating well and since her shopping excursion with us on Wednesday, she’s been mainly laying around. So we went over to Ken’s and he liked his amber guitar lamp I got him even though mom said little Kenny already had one. What’s the difference, I was giving it to big Ken! Ken got the family a new Mac computer with a 22″ monitor-wow-it’s big! I like what we have, though I saw on the screen capture of my old blog that my header was too short which I didn’t even know. Ken put on James Taylor music on the stereo for me which I thought was cute.
Mom didn’t want to go to a nearby shopping center, so we bid her adieu and I went to JoAnn’s and Sean went to Circuit City. Here JoAnn’s was having a big sale (looked like you needed a coupon), but I got adorable Northern Woods ornaments (natural looking) for 75% off. Their pink ticket items were further reduced 50% off. I got an embellishment style cross stitch kit of a koi fish pond for only $5. I think I spent $50 on 30 things-so you know I got some decent buys. I believe the sale is on until tomorrow. I hope to photograph some of the goodies I bought.
We had to drop food and medical stuff off at my Uncle’s before dinner, so we drove in a 50 mile circle going through many towns we haven’t been in for a while. There are a lot of new shopping centers and developments going up. We passed the  restaurant where we had our engagement dinner, a seafood place called Bobby’s 24 yrs ago. Now it’s a Japanese restaurant!
My Uncle is doing okay. Sean thought he didn’t look as good as he looked at the end of December. I had saved and froze for him some portions of chili and spaghetti and Colleen sent him a goodie basket of snacks and cookies plus homemade soup.
Tomorrow is my big dental appointment. I hope to get on here later in the afternoon to update ya’ll.

Having fun with WordPress

Standard

I’ve been playing with the side bar getting things in order. It’s really a fun place to blog. I moved Cosmo’s blog here too (see the sidebar). I just saw that is you move your mouse over the links, the owner’s blogger homepage comes up! I can’t figure out how to fix the time though. I hope if I ever close my blogger account that all my photos ‘won’t vanish’ because many of them were uploaded to blogger. Not much new-Target store security called me tonight and indeed Sean was overcharged (they review their video). Sean has to go back up there and get his moola-within 90 days. It does pay to complain.

Sorry if I ruined it for any of you European people with telling you what’s going on between Meredith and Derrick. I forgot!

Snoring is an issue

Standard

So I could relate to Dr. ‘McDreamy’ not being able to sleep with Meredith because of her snoring on Grey’s Anatomy tonight. Bri says I snore too, but not like he does when the roof sounds like it will cave in. I always wonder if I will trip over a pile of wood in the morning from all the ‘sawing’ that is going on during the night. Unfortunately, we have had trouble sleeping together for a while. I’m hoping we can get over that. I could relate to Meredith when she said that Derrick sleeping somewhere else causes her to have abandonment issues. (She also has a father that left her). I guess these things make the show seem more real to me.

It was a cleaning day here after my mom left around 2. I thought I had packed up the last of the Christmas stuff (I am sorting older things and consolidating them) when I found yet another two bags of stuff. I found adorable Martha Stewart mini jingle bell candy canes and Christmas trees still wired to their packaging. I also found all of Sean’s Disney characters that I use to collect for him when he was little. You should see the trash for tomorrow! I asked Brian to bring up a crate that was haphazardly resting on two stacked chairs (yep it’s that bad in the cave). The crate contains Halloween stuff! So now I’m going in reverse. I don’t plan to save too much of it, but Bri had a laugh when he said a skeleton hand was sticking out from under the lid of the crate. ; )

Kirigami everyday

Standard

It really doesn’t take much to make me happy. Good food, quiet time and new crafts are right up there with flowers, cross stitching and a movie I want to watch again (I’m really picky as I get older though about movies). This little rip-off calendar is making the entrance into the dreary days of January more fun for me! That’s the practice one, then the ones for the last few days. Notice that the one you cut for the previous day is displayed on the current page-cool! And on the bottom is a sneak peek for tomorrow’s snowflake. I have almost mastered the fold-I have to rethink the fold lines (on the calendar page there) and do eventually get it. It comes with detailed directions too! Then you cut out the printed design. Tomorrow’s will be rather wing-like! I’m adding these to my collage scrapbook. My niece Tori would love these. I can cut squares out of new paper and redraw the patterns and let her go to town.
I will learn some other folds-starburst, spider, quilt, half/square fold, pop-outs, 3-D flowers and weaving and bows. All for $7.50! Run to Borders and get one! (uh oh-tomorrow is a starburst fold!)

Where’s the gas?

Standard

We finally found a BP station with gas tonight! The two Luk Oil places didn’t have any gas! My tank was running a little dry and we were getting concerned. I only gas my van up every few weeks as it is. Bri’s the heavy gas user in this family. Now don’t think I’m not also thinking about global warming-but that’s his job, driving around collecting ads for local newspapers. I’d love him to be up in the next town like he was when he first started, but no, they had to send him off to first Maryland (!) and now Lancaster county. He’s put a ton of miles on his Taurus.
Not much new-we hit Wally World as I needed to get out of the house. I got some things for 75% off from the Christmas aisle. Love the silverplated initial ornaments with the crystals I got for the guys for $1.24 each. I got some cute galvanized mini buckets to make into ‘something’ for next year at 30-97¢ each. My best find was a MaryKate/Ashley poufy gold nylon skirt with sparkles throughout and a gold ribbon waist band for Tori. I’ll probably give it to her for her April birthday. : )
I scheduled my very expensive dental work for the 15th-I so want to get it out of the way. I have about 3 cavities, one is under a crown on a dead tooth. So I have to have some bone taken away next to the trouble spot as I need a higher ‘new’ crown. They can’t recycle the old one-too bad. The only good thing is the dentist- Dr. B-only about 28-30. : )

ABCs of me

Standard

When I got up this morning there was almost a near disaster. I knocked into something on the end table and it hit Brian’s coffee mug (which I begged him never to place over my cross stitch stuff). Most of what was left in the mug went on the rug (oh great) and an old mailing envelope. I found a dot of coffee (so far) on a scrap piece of white aida. Whew.
Brian decided to move his childhood desk into the bathroom in the basement. He has some attachment to a rather ugly piece of furniture. It doesn’t look right in there. The reason he moved it is that I want to set up a big table for crafting in a finished room we have. The problem is the room is loaded with junk-mostly old toys! So he just pulled the desk out and everything fell over. I sure hope I can use the room and my allergies won’t get the best of me. I can at least start projects down there and store my gifts on the table. I can’t have them in my small bedroom anymore.
Brian had on the funeral service for Gerald Ford earlier. One funeral was enough for me in one week. I wonder if Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford were there as they were pals with the Fords? Katie Couric and another reporter were saying that Ford and Jimmy Carter were friends too. I didn’t know that.
