Never hit your elbow into a brick wall

Standard

Like I did last night! I’m a leftie and why I sat at the table in Perkins next to the wall is beyond me. Well my ‘funny bone’ went right into the brick and the pain was terrible. I put my head on the table a few times. I then felt a bit queasy (empty tummy) and then I had to get up because I broke into a cold sweat! I have ‘experienced’ hurting myself  like this at home a few times, but never in a crowded restaurant! Thank goodness the ladies’ restroom had the air blasting and it revived me. Needless to say, I ruined dinner. The above happened over the course of say 5-8 minutes. So watch your precious, bony elbows!

Kinda blue as a bunch of pals and I were planning a get-together and decided on a southern state next year where one lady lives as she doesn’t travel well. We were all getting excited until we looked at the flight schedules. For me to fly from Philly down to our proposed meeting area would be a 9 hour day with a couple of layovers and finally flying into a dinky airport. That completely soured me on it. Then another friend said if we went to a major city and tourist attraction, it would be a direct flight (3 hours for me!) We threw this pass the one lady and she got completely insulted as she thought we were more interested in sightseeing than being with her for 4 days. Now we had planned to rent a car and overnight in her town and spend at least 1.5 days with her. We were doing all the running around. She dropped out of our group over the above. Dropped like a hot potato! Her profile said she was ‘calm’ today. I haven’t been calm because I feel like I lost a friend. Hope she goes from mad to glad again soon.

Anyway, I am hoping to get out west to see 3 other friends in 2010 in celebration of the big ‘5-0’. Never been there. I have roots in Oregon. Bri suggested this. I hope we could stay for a while, heading from San Fran up to Oregon. We’ll see.

Not much going on today. It’s nice out though!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my pal Barbara over at Mainly Stitching and my friend Carol’s friend Steve! (so what if I’m 5 months older than Steve-lo)

Love to play with Paint Shop! Lots of sites have ‘avatars’, so to just put a plain photo up doesn’t do sometimes. Here’s a few I’ve made over the years. The second one-forget the site, made you into a resemblance of a famous artist’s painting. I named it Mucha-so perhaps him?

A lily has broken off and I made it into a hair ornament.

Standard

I got our ‘reunion guy’ as a pal on Facebook (which reminds me, if anyone who reads this wants to be a pal on Facebook, let me know!) and he shared the link to our 30 reunion photos. It was a little over 6 months ago and you know I had that biopsy looming. We had the little disposal cameras on each table. I was really happy to see this one:

and this too:

I really like the first one! I am holding up the reunion book in this shot, no one else did. : ) I guess Brian took that one.

Seems there were at least 3 or more other get-togethers, one being a Bon Fire feast where the host Bill had venison stew and lots of vittles. Still a lot ‘earthy’ folks in my class.

Late Thursday afternoon was spent pulling out honeysuckle vines growing up near my mom’s one side of her house. I think ‘phase one’ is finished. I now have to dig deeper to find those blasted roots! I had the entire area cleaned out a few years ago. I came close to poison ivy-a bit afraid I’ll wake up with it tomorrow. My back is complaining right now. At least mom’s gardens are starting to look better!

Promised ATCs

Standard

It’s nearly 80 degrees out and a bit humid. I went out briefly to plant a couple of perennials in the pond garden (which needs major weeding) and I got warm and came in. It’s not even sunny either. I planted Lupine and English Daisies. Seems my color theme there this year is pinks and purples.

Here is the Food challenge card I made for Emily over at ‘The Floss Box’.

I have all these sheets of letters in different papers that you punch out and am glad at the chance to use them.
Then I was clipping magazines and ran across this angel statue and decided to start a ‘Butterfly Wings’ series. The butterfly wings are from wallpaper border. The pretty white wings are from some papers I just got from Creative Papers online (love them!)

Then I did a Butterfly Fairy. Her ‘crown’ is part of a raspberry from the wallpaper border.

Her banner says, I wish you love.
And for my stitching pals-Art and Soul:

I think Emily fits in this category too!
I have these chalks that don’t photograph well (her neck), but I also colored her in with pencils.

Feeling a bit in a funk from not sleeping well last night. I was restless, it was stuffy in the house, I turned the air on, ate something around 6 am. I guess we all have those nights. I hope to do a bit more outside, but here comes Mister Sunshine!

Happy Birthday Patrick!

Standard

Patrick, there on the right with his older brother Dave and my brother Dave (and Mickey) turned 19 today! Hard to believe the curly-haired tyke is now a sophomore at PSU now. We don’t see the family that often and are always glad when we do! Pat drives about a ’65 Galaxy that his dad and his uncle fixed up for him.

Did some gardening with Bri today. I planted some tomatoes and he planted green peppers and a rose bush (named Dolly Parton, so I’m expecting some spectacular blooms!)

~SHOES~

These are tiny brass slippers, about 4″ long. I believe they were meant to be used as ash trays because of the indentation in the back. I guess i found these on a white elephant table-boy, they are green inside!

This is part of the fairy/gnome garden that I just mulched a few days ago. I call it ‘gnomeland’. I dug up a hydrangea and moved it, so I had more room for plants and gnomes! When the plants fill in, it really looks cute seeing those little people ‘hiding’ amongst them. Some of the paint on these to be touched up a bit. Another thing for me to do. : )

My pretty pinkish-orange (not quite salmon) nemesia. I think it’s going to need repotting soon.

What to do when it feels like March

Standard

That’s right folks! It crept up to about 60 today and rained until 4 pm. I had started a few ATCs yesterday and did a few more tonight (see Flickr). Sean started a writing course tonight down at the annex campus at PSU.

Here’s what I did :

I printed out some images on vellum paper and made this card for a friend. She gave me the neat backing paper with the ‘language of flowers’. I liked the way it turned out. The vellum makes the paper curl up though.

Over at ‘Facebook’, there is an application called ‘Sketch Me’, so I did it with a newer photo of me kneeling with my flowers. This is my new calling card!
Hope to get outside tomorrow. I walked around tonight and things look ok, but I need to do so much more weeding, planting and mulching. Hope my tummy is better too. I had to take some prescription medicine today, which is my last resort.

Bloomin’ Saturday

Standard

Yellow Calendula, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I plan to plant these around the edge of my Yucca bed near the road. When I spied them at the nursery, they all looked this gorgeous, but the container they are in was bone dry. I figured if they could take that abuse, I want to see what they look like with some TLC.
Sean took me to a hospital fair Saturday which turned out to have moved to another location. We were told they did that as they had planned to do renovations at the hospital, which they hadn’t started yet. There was no white elephant table or vendors, two places we love to roam through. We ended up buying raffle tickets for a car and other goodies (crossing fingers) and homemade donuts-I’m feeling the affects of those today.
Last night, our parish gave our priest a new Chrysler Sebring as a gift for 20 years of service to the community. He said he was speechless!

Nor’easter blew out power for 5 hours

Standard

We just got technology back at 4 pm-it was gone from us since a little before 11! What a pain! It’s too rainy and chilly to do anything outside, and a bit dark to do anything inside! I did go through some bags in my bedroom and condensed them. I had been in my bedroom all day Saturday doing the winter to summer clothes switch-a-roo. So proud to be on my 3rd bag for Goodwill donations. Sean did add stuff though.  I never have enough room for my clothes in the armoire. I take pretty good care of them (line dry many things) so I have them for years!

We did take mom out to a Chinese dinner which is usually a ‘no-no’ for me, but I got out voted 3 to 1! The restaurant smelled funny, like they had had a water leak-wet rugs. I think we should have left and gone to the Jewish deli place across the shopping center, but mom reminded me we didn’t like what we had there one time. Mom goes to this restaurant a bunch, so we stayed and shared ‘Seven Stars around the Moon’ for two. It was nicely presented (Sean has a photo on his camera phone) and was pretty good, not too much of an MSG taste. They had the shrimp butterflied and cooked with bacon-quite yummy. We also stopped briefly in a Dollar Tree and AC Moore and I got a magazine and few little gift items and things. Mom wasn’t feeling well, so we dropped her off and came home, but hit a new Target where Sean and I looked around for a bit and shopped. Oh, the entire day my left knee was so sore! When I came home (after Baskin Robbins) I used the heating pad and it went away! Amazing.

Today I did a few ATCs by the light of a little lantern. I wound up some music boxes! It was too quiet! When Sean came home from a Longwood Gardens job interview (which he says sounds good), we played Trivial Pursuit, but just answered questions without using the board part. I called my mom as she had gone to the hearing dept at the hospital and she had water in her ears’ tubes which may be causing her hearing loss to be moderate to low. She needs to go to a specialist now.

We are waiting on Bri for dinner (McDs). He brought us pizza home for lunch as I wouldn’t dare open the frig. I only ate one slice as I was feeling the affects from out dinner last night.

Here’s hoping for a gorgeous day tomorrow!

Happy Mother’s Day

Standard

To all my friends who are moms or provide motherly guidance and love, I hope you have a wonderful day today. We are all going down to my mom’s and go out to dinner someplace. Mom’s had a rough time lately and she needs lots of love.

Thanks Jeannie ma for being there for your diadsiegirl!

About 1975 (I was in 10th grade) and yes, my hair is still styled similar to this! Mom still lives in the house behind us. I’m now taller than her, but she was 3 years younger than I am now in this photo-yikes!

And here’s one from today of me being motherly with my college boy Sean:
