Handblown pumpkins and gourds, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I have 338 photos on Flickr tagged with the word ‘orange’. This one is a few years old, but I loved these glass pumpkins. They still sell a few in the gift shop at Longwood Gardens, but they are quite pricey.
And speaking of Longwood, I was scanning old photos as I want to return them to their rightful owner and I found this one of my mom back in 1948 near the main fountain garden-I’m going by the chairs. I love this photo of her.

Update-My uncle finally got in a room after spending an entire day in the ER. He walked and ate a bit, but is still very weak.

Between the Moon and NYC

Standard

Had a very busy afternoon and early evening as I decided it was too perfect of a day to clean, so I went to Longwood Gardens to walk and take photos. Great exercise, but I am zonked. I am hoping to go to a rubber stamp show in York, about 1.5 hours or so from here, about 28 miles above Lancaster. I’ve never been to a show like that-and they have paper goodness galore. I’m not sure who all is going, but if both guys go, they can go check out ‘the first Capital of the USA’. This evening I finished up a few ATCs and hope to enter them in a contest at the show. I also pulled a few to trade.
So back to my collage-my tribute to NYC! I thought it would be funny to have an airborne taxi. Bri thought the taxi needed wings! The white stars glow in the dark too. The NYC in front is a sticker as is the taxi. The lighter color buildings are little cut-outs. And the moon is a rubber stamp.
Off to bed real soon-but I know you want to see an almost 800 pound pumpkin first!

Purple and lime orchids, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Here’s some exotic orchids from always reliable Longwood Gardens. (Make note to go in the next week or so).

Please keep my husband Brian’s dad Fran in your thoughts and prayers. He has something going on and is in the hospital now. He’s had GI issues for months and months and refused to go to the doctor. His RBC was low as was his BP. He had a CAT scan on his stomach and his colon has pockets, but not sure if that being irritated is his main problem.
I’ll probably go see him tomorrow. He was always quite heavy in the 240+ range . Now he’s like 160. He just had a birthday on the 23rd-turned 87!

Almost summer weather

Rose garden in Conservatory
Very strange spring weather here today! It got in the middle 80s! Not sure if the temp or my solo trip to my hometown yesterday set me off, but I was so miserable with hacking today, I went to the doctor. I was doing everything right, but have a little noise she didn’t like in my chest, got my first inhaler, plus got an antibiotic-asked for something that wouldn’t upset my tummy too much. I may have been able to get over this myself, I was almost there, I know it! It was the feeling of needing to expel something from my lungs and the terrible tickle that came on so suddenly. Trying to get ready for our little trip to DC next week. I want to go, but not sure if I can handle tummy upset in a strange town. I am eating yogurt to help.
I hope you like the almost perfect rose from Longwood.
I did have a nice visit for a few hours yesterday with my family, though my mom is upset about needing her sewage pipes worked on. I did fine driving there and back. A day sure makes a difference.

Dianne and Delphinium, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Brian and I went to check out the orchid competition at Longwood Gardens today. Sean and I had gone earlier in the month to see the orchid display. The competition was only this weekend. Brian hadn’t been there for years and enjoyed it.

Yellow Grasshopper, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

So I usually don’t post undesirable things, so what do I do for this one? I looked around my photos and came up with this. I’m sure the main gardener over at Longwood*Gardens would have fainted if he saw this ‘muncher’. He was a big yellow guy too! He was really hanging on too.
I could have posted about holiday commercialism at this time of year, but I stuck to bugs, thank you very much. And look it’s ‘festive’ too-red and green!

Knot garden, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is a bit of a stretch-but this is a ‘knot’ garden that I may have shown before, but then you can think of the expression-‘tied up in knots’. So there-lol!!
Happy Birthday to my son Sean who turns 23 today! He’s had an interesting year for sure! I was blessed with a great only child.

Eye of the water, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is a water attraction at Longwood Gardens called the Eye of Water. As you can see, the water ‘ripples’ out of the iris part and flows over the blue pupil part. This photo is in mostly the shade. People toss coins on it too.
I have to chuckle as the sign says -‘rippleless’ when you can clearly see ripples. Maybe because it’s 41 yrs old. : )
