Wishy washy in a good way

Standard

We did need the rain we got in the late afternoon, especially the pine barrens over in New Jersey that were engulfed in flames. Seems a test pilot dropped a flare in the area-problem is it’s been windy and a bit dry-fuel for fire. I hope the rain helped!

I’m having sleeping issues from overusing my muscles. Now a tooth on the opposite side where I have to get the crown is bothering me-I need to chew somewhere. Looks like a crack is in the filling. I should get it checked out before the 29th. Sean went to the dentist today and has some of his first cavities. They are small, so he can wait a few months to get them filled. Bri goes for his check up tomorrow.

I just had wet eyes from Lost. I don’t know if you watch it, but Charlie knows he is going to die from a premonition Desmond made (who is also stuck on the island where their plane crashed). So Charlie is shown in flashbacks-the first time he jumps in a pool as a child-he writes it down as #5 as his favorite moment. So when they got to the moment he met Claire, one of the other survivors, he writes meeting her as #1! Sniffle. I’m a sap.

Touched by an angel and reality producer wed

Mark and Roma

Roma Downey (47) married Mark Burnett(46) in Malibu lately. I like it when people my age find love again. I really like Roma, not only because of her angel role, but she is really lovely and classy too. Della Reese, who co-starred in the Touched by an Angel show is a minister and married the couple. The little girl is Roma’s 10 yr old daughter Reilly.

I’m sitting here with the noon news on and they just reported that a terrorist plot was broken up in New Jersey today. They wanted to storm Fort Dix and kill as many military personnel  as they could. All I can say is thank God!

I find this incredibly sad

Standard

I didn’t know if I wanted to mention this on my blog as it’s a sad thing, but maybe it will make you (us) sit up and take notice of the people who live around you, whether you like them or not. I use to be really friendly with the lady across the street and then she got all strange and we don’t talk anymore. I do however, try to take notice if I see her walking around her yard (she lives alone with two dogs) or if her garages are open (she drives an old Ford from about ’65 and an old Buick from the early 70s). I did say ‘hi’ in the grocery store when I saw her a few weeks ago. As I said, she is odd.

So a few days ago, skeletons were found in a house in Northeast Philadelphia near a very busy road. The one skeleton had a gun in it’s ‘hand’. The suicide note was dated January, 2006! So in all that time, no one missed these two people. They were found because the water people had to get in their house as water was leaking from it. It turns out it was a man (use to be a cop) and his mother. Very disturbing isn’t it?

On a happier note, the Extreme Makeover:Home Edition show will help a family in Bucks County-a single mom and her 4 sons this Sunday. Their home was ravaged by termites. I love these shows that turn people’s lives around. I wonder if Ty Pennington is always thinking about all the other people who need their help? It must be a hard job.

Celine and Elvis

Standard

Hey did you see the American Idol gives back special Wednesday night? Not only was it an important show, but it had the cool ‘performance’ highlighting Celine Dion singing with Elvis (from the year she was born-1968). It was pretty clever. I think it’s available for download on the AI site. While you’re there, give a few bucks to help poor people-it makes a difference. I bought a bunch of the One.org white bracelets last year and Sean was wearing his today.

I had an uneventful day-did some cleaning. Yeah, stop snickering there. I am influenced (though I am not that bad, goodness me) hooked on that BBC America show ‘How Clean is Your House‘ with Kim (the lady with the I Dream of Jeanie hairstyle) and Aggie- who takes swabs of different areas in the dirty houses before they get cleaned. That’s the part I like the best as unfortunately, it scares many of them back into reality. The lady last night had such a dirty frig that Aggie suggested she ‘chuck it’ for a new one. Take the how clean is your house quiz here. I passed, thank goodness! And here are some videos with the ladies’ helpful cleaning hints.

Sean was a good guy this afternoon. He took his mom mom to the doctor so she could get a cortisone shot in her hand-for the second time in a year. She has a painful swelling in her right hand. She can’t get it in her head not to use the hand and I even saw her trying to lift a box at the book sale a few days back. I’m glad Sean was with her.

I forgot to tell you that someone was trying to report my one debit/credit card as lost and the company that issued it closed down my account, though I had to reapply for a new one. I had just gotten the new card and now I have to wait for 2-4 weeks for the replacement. I don’t want to say what company it is on my blog, but you can write to me if you want to know. I believe I used the card months ago in either a Marshall’s or TJ Maxx-one of the stores that had card #s stolen. It had to be one of them as I usually only use the card at the post office. You never know.

And just for fun…

BBC America’s Robin Hood

Standard

I really like BBC America. I can be flipping channels and there is that slim chance of a rerun or nothing good is on,  so I can usually always count on some good Brit humor or drama at BBC America. They have a Robin Hood series on  right now and it’s quite good and entertaining. I really like Sir Guy and Maid Marian, not to say that the chap who plays Robin Hood isn’t good (he is reminding me of Charlie from LOST), but darn that Errol Flynn, I have an image of a bigger man in my head. Everyone is actually quite good.

Sir Guy is played by extremely handsome Richard Armitage and Maid Marian is played by 20 yr old Lucy Griffiths. The Sheriff reminded Sean of Billy Joel!  Try to catch the show-it’s worth a look.

Richard Armitage as Sir Guy of Gisbourne

And he’s the ‘bad’ one-can you tell?

16 children

Standard

On TLC last night the Duggar family special was on about them building their own dream house on 20 acres. 20 acres-so each of the 16 children could have an acre and build a home for themself someday. The dad and the bigger kids did a lot of the work themselves until it got too much and they called in a contractor. But what they did was amazing. Michelle the mom and the only non-J named family member was about to have baby number 16, so they wanted to get it finished.
(The names and ages of the Duggar’s children, and you’ll notice a pattern with their names, are: Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; Jackson Levi, 1;Johannah, newborn.)

I think TLC came in and got a designer for them, sponsors, etc. Jim Bob is the dad (why do I think of The Waltons when I hear that name?) and is a real estate person. He must do extremely well. Michelle is the sweetest person. Talk about building a village! They remind me of Mennonites or Mormons, but are Southern Baptists who believe that God opens the womb. The girls wear long dresses and have long hair (mom too). What got me was the family closet. They all store their clothing in one room-bins for ‘dark socks’, etc. Mom has used heavy duty kitchen equipment that is worth $100k that they got for $11k. Mom is also the teacher. I must say all the children are extremely polite. The oldest son narrated the special and did an excellent job.

What have I been doing? Cleaning! I took down my winter snow scene yesterday and replaced it with my glass egg collection. I am having trouble finding Easter stuff. What else is new?

I have a pot of beef stew all set and I have to go mail auction items as tomorrow will be a snowy day-maybe. They say the roads may not get bad. Crossing fingers.

Amazing anchorman

Standard

Bob Woodruff
Someone who fits in that ‘tall, dark, handsome… and smart’ category is anchorman Bob Woodruff. I think we were all concerned about his well being over the last year since his near fatal injury in Iraq. Half his scull was removed (not sure if it was saved or that he has a plate in his head) and his jaw was severely injured. Last night there was a tv special on him and I was glad to see him (I had seen him earlier on Oprah also) along with his wife Lee. He made a pretty amazing recovery, looking much like his old self though his peripheral vision is messed up and he had to relearn a lot of his vocabulary. He wants US citizens to sit up and be aware that there are many soldiers that are injured and have had similar injuries to his. Bob went around to many of these young men. Of course their lives will never be the same. One man’s body was just crippled and he lay in bed with a tube in his throat but you could tell he was talking with his eyes. Others are trying to get help with therapy and it’s hard for them to find it in their area.

So I have a new hero in Bob. I wish him and his family (along with wife Lee they have 4 children) well.

Lee asked the doctor if Bob would still love her and he said they never forget who they love and he was right.

Real Housewives of Orange County?

Standard

Yes, that is the question. These women are not housewives or really even domestic goddesses. A few of them are businesswomen, but I guess friends of the impostors. All have fake boobs. Probably all have been botoxed and have smooth foreheads and big waxy lips and long hair. They have showed a few of the gals getting needles in the frown area. I think this Bravo cable show should be called ‘Stepford Wives of Orange County’ as they are trying to be cookie cutter replicas of each other. The only one I can relate to in the tiniest of ways is Jeana, because she is the heaviest of the bunch, not in a bad heavy way. She and her ex-pro baseball player husband have 3 kids (she thought their gene pool was so excellent that they reproduced that many times-words from her own mouth). They have about 3-4 homes. Her kids are totally spoiled.
Jeana showing bling In fact, most of the teenagers/young adults they show have some kind of issue. Last night the other ‘newer’ cast member’s daughter had her nose fixed as she had a little bump in it. They actually showed the doctor whamming her nose with a hammer and you heard the ‘crack’ when it broke. The one I can’t stand the most is Jo who is about 26. She isn’t anything special, not even that pretty. She happen to catch this rich guy Slade (real name? I think not) and he fell for her. Now she got a job in LA and is moving there. I think Slade is tired of her anyway. I guess their lives are like 98% more interesting then mine, but you see from the show that they all have problems. Money seems to escalate this most of the times. All have been married and divorced too.

Heroes-who’s your daddy?

Standard

The real daddyI did watch Heroes last night and they waited until the last few minutes to ‘reveal’ who Claire’s real daddy was and it was Nathan-Adrian Pasdar (my mom has a crush on him). If you look at some of the bio pages for Adrian, it says he lived in Powellton, PA. He may have at one time, but he graduated from Marple Newton HS which isn’t near there at all. I wasn’t sure if they would introduce a new character, but deep down I thought no. Adrian grew up about 5 miles or so from me in Delaware County. I mentioned this before. Wonder if he ever shopped in ‘Two Guys’ department store near where he use to live? Danny Bonaduce, also from around the same area, of course moved to Hollywood as a kid. Talk about changing from lovable Danny Partridge to steroid addict real life grown up Danny.Danny grown up I hope he is doing better as his reality show scared the ‘you know what’ out of me (caught it a few times when Bri was channel surfing).

Back to the homefront-my poor sinuses are bothering me as is my tummy. I think my choice of meals have been too acidity and rich lately. Those fat pink mints work wonders! The heat is running all the time because it’s only 10 degrees outside! I try to take precautions and they help a bit, but that forced dry air heat is taking it’s toll on all of us. Because we had a mild December, I wasn’t affected as early as I usually am. I hope I feel better by 3 when I go to the dentist. Sean was also getting on my nerves as he has a short summary due on wacky Penna laws and had trouble finding something. He was on dumblaws.com and it turned out to be his best bet. Did you know you can’t use dynamite in PA to catch fish? Or you can’t sing in the bathtub? Hmmm….

In memory of Barbaro

Standard

3.5 year old Barbaro was euthanized today. What a gallant struggle.

Barbaro won four of his five career starts and over $1m in prize money.
He first caught the public imagination by winning the Kentucky Derby by nearly seven lengths – the biggest margin in 60 years.

When he broke his leg two weeks later, more than $1m was raised for a fund in his honor to help other animals/horses with similar injuries that he had. Christmas songs were written about him.

Here’s a timeline of what Barbaro went throught these last 8.5 months at the New Bolton Center.

A true fighter!

…Barbaro no longer is bearing weight on the right hind leg he shattered eight months ago in the Preakness Stakes after undergoing surgery Saturday to place two steel pins through a bone. The biggest fear is that the bone bearing the weight — the cannon bone — can break. From NBC 10 news

Barbaro has taken up residence a few miles from here where he still struggles to survive. When he first was brought to the animal hospital near Kennett Square, Sean and I drove by to see the signs left on the outside fence of encouragement, etc. I bet they are still there. That horse is surely loved around the world.
