March 1st already!

Standard
I look forward to March because it’s the month I start poking around outside. I start to rake up the winter debris and look for tender green sprouts. We are having a cold beginning with some snow next week, so I guess I should expect a delay in the above activity.
The Philly Flower Show is this week coming up also. Sean will be off for springbreak, so maybe he’ll go with me.
I have to get myself on a better household schedule. I need to schedule cleaning time. I can see why the generation before us were into cleaning more than my technology oriented one. Now some people have it broken down and can spend time on the computer. They won’t let themselves ‘surf’ until the house is cleaned to their liking. I decided to try the family room today. I got two tables dusted and said to myself ‘Hmmm…wonder if Comcast is still acting up this morning?’ So I turned on the puter and Comcast wanted to download a ‘computer doctor’ program. And it is running about 90% better. Blogger doesn’t want to republish because of some connection error. (I added St. Patty’s blinkies).
I am also much better. I was getting a sore mouth from the med (looked like sunburn on my palate), so I called the pharmacist and he said the doctor will probably tell me to stop taking the med. So I stopped it.
Sean has a trunk rash. It is like tiny chicken pox. He took some Benadryl last night and applied medicated powder. We are a bit perplexed. I did noticed he has eaten almost 1/2 of chocolates in 5 days, so maybe he is suffering from sugar or cocoa overload. He didn’t say anything to me this morning, but he was worried about himself and surfed the web looking for his rash (yeah he’s like his ma).
I did manage to see Sally Taylor’s website last night. (Daughter of James and Carly Simon). We went to a free concert of hers about 5 yrs ago. Here she is making ponchos to sell (starting at $600-yikes). I see Carly is the model there. She’s a real talented knitter. I suggested to her in her comments that she should put on up a poncho on eBay to raise money for her Tranquility Project-a landmine foundation that she started with her husband Dean a few years ago.

The above shot was taken at the Walden School which use to be called Sandy Bank Elementary School where I went to kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grade. I guess Sally must be a pal of one of the teachers, not sure. This is about 5 yrs old.

Back to tidying up. Ugh. So boring. ; )

Darn medicine

Standard

I knew only time would tell if the antibiotic would agree with me. Or maybe I should have laid off the vanilla ice cream last night. ‘Whateva’ gave me a good GERDY type of episode this morning. I was talking to my mom and it started.I had called the doctor to say I wasn’t coming in-this was around 10:15. About 1/2 hour later the nurse called back and said my urine was negative-for what? Going to that office is like taking a boat ride on the magical mystery tour. Anyway, it took a few Rolaids to calm me down (I cough and gag-not pretty). I haven’t had one of those for a year, so it has to be the medicine. Only 5 more pills!!
Lucky me gets to go to the bank and post office today.
We had a little snow overnight, but it’s mostly gone now. I was leaving messages on The Bachelor board (it was late and I was bored) when I noticed that the motion detector light out front was on and there was snow all over the van.
~CONTEST ALERT~
Home Depot is giving away a tractor a day from 2/23 to 3/8. You have to register. Go to homedepot.com/tractors. They have a cute flash of mowers doing their jobs.
Also at marthastewart.com she is giving away 20 essential tools for your kitchen. I just tried to sign up but it must be overloaded because of her show just airing.
Today is Fat Tuesday, so I think I’ll get fat hoagies for dinner and have a nice fish meal tomorrow.

I saw it in his eyes

Geez Louise-could they have dragged that Bachelor show out any longer? At least Dr. Travis McHunky picked the right girl-the kindergarten teacher Sarah. I scared the cat by clapping when the first limo pulled up and Moana climbed out. That girl thought she had it all wrapped up. I can see why no one really liked her that much. And to tell you the truth, the producers probably told Travis to kept her as one of the girls for ratings. I remember seeing the shocked looks on the other ladies’ faces when he would pick her at the rose ceremony.
The laugh of the night was when Travis’ little niece drew a picture and said she liked Moana better. Little kids remember the last person they spent time with. The entire family went to France to check the two girls out. And guess who they liked-Sarah of course. I know this show is mostly a bunch of BS, but it’s fun to watch. I guess sometimes we gals need to see a little romance and hope it rubs off on our someone.

I was trying to finish up my house cross stitch and I had to rip out a windowbox because it was a stitch off. I am getting down to the nitty gritty. I really like it too.

Ah, it’s after midnight, someone is feeling better

Standard

Yep, had a pretty good day yesterday. The headache went away, but I have a little heartburn.
People are telling me to get a new doctor (well they are in a herbal medicine group). They couldn’t believe she wanted me to take two antibiotics without a proper diagnosis. Believe me, I’m thinking about it. I ate normally today and was fine. I feel bad because Sean and the doc’s son are pals.
I clipped some magazines and found some good recipes and crafting ideas. I’ll have to share a few here.
Ok-one is to get a large vase (they showed a clear glass cylinder shaped one). You add a little water in the bottom, but the thing is to have the flower inside the vase. I’ll definitely try it and show you. Sandy, this would be make some cool shots.
The other thing I liked were the layers of jelly beans in jars-similar to sand art! It looked pretty-a layer of green, then a layer of pink, green-well you get the idea. Easter is coming up.
Let’s see-the other was using beach glass in shallow dishes instead of gravel. I also clipped the page with the ‘crop circle’ made of moss with pebbles for the swirls in a dish garden.
I’m like Zoey, I am wanting to do creative inside things before gardening outside takes over.

I may be MIA for a few days

Standard

I had to go to the doctor this morning because of muscle spasms in my stomach and discomfort in my left side and lower left side. The thing that was keeping me awake the most was the ‘baby kick’ like spasm. I think I had 2 hours sleep last night. I tried all my basic trying to get comfy techniques-heat rub, Tylenol and the heating pad until I got a little panicky around 6 am. So the doctor mentioned diverticulosis and put me on two kinds of antibiotics! Antibiotics and me do not mix well and I’ve only taken one and already had issues. And I’m on a liquid diet with a few crackers thrown in if I’m starving. I still think I have irritable bowel syndrome (only time will tell). Brian was nice enough to stay home and drive me (I am cross-eyed from sleep deprivation but I can’t seem to relax all the way to get in a decent nap, plus it’s too noisy around here). The jello and chicken broth were ‘just yummy’. I’ve had discomfort in the LLQ before and I got over it. I told Dr. H (whose son is one of Sean’s best friends) that I tried pilates and that maybe one of my problems. I did have a wee fever-99.4. She said if I felt worst to go to the ER over the weekend. I didn’t care for that remark. I have to go back to the doctor Monday or Tuesday.
So wish me luck. My weekend is basically ruined-no home show that I really wanted to attend. I feel crummy anyway.

Near miss

Ever see that movie ‘Starman’ and Jeff Bridges goes faster when he sees the yellow traffic light? A flash of a second after they go through the red light and avoid a collusion (I believe it’s with a train?) Karen Allen asks the hybrid alien that looks like her husband, “why did you do that, you could have gotten us killed!” With that Jeff replies, “Yellow means to go faster, like you did.”
I believe that’s the way most people drive nowadays. I was heading to my mom’s and on a long stretch of the main route I take. A car behind me was edging up on me and I was hoping they would go around me, but no! About 100 feet from the light that was turning yellow, I started to slow down, but not my ‘friend’ behind me. No, they thought I was going to race through this wide intersection. I heard her hit her brakes and I veered to the right and saved being rear-ended! I swear I have a guardian angel watching me! So I had my heart in my throat for a few minutes, believe me. A little further down, a small truck was behind me, almost tailgating. I do drive the speed limit and maybe over about 5 mph sometimes. I hit my brake lights several times and put my signal on and the jackass got off my back. I mean, are you really going to get where you are going any faster?
Good things about my afternoon-seeing mom; getting her Webtv to work again (found a keyboard for her to use); going to Joann’s and getting a 1/2 price xs kit (three old-fashioned purses); having a Shrimp Lejon brick oven pizza; bringing Brian home some brew; seeing Kenny and Tori (my nephew and niece); seeing the progress my brother is making on his kitchen/family room (he’s amazing) and having a good ride home! Whew!
Sad about Sasha falling on her butt. She’s so talented, I like her skating so much better than the Japanese girl who won. But giving Japan it’s first medal of the game and first ever gold medal in figure skating is awesome!

Thank you Oprah

I’ve been totally blown away by the generosity of ‘our girlfriend’ the last few days. She wants to keep the survivors of Katrina in our minds and she’s touched me to the core. My dinner sure didn’t taste that great after I saw what those poor souls were STILL going through 6 months later. Horrible-living in tents when there were dozens of vacant trailers just sitting on lots. FEMA, man, get your act together.
The show yesterday was when the homes of ‘Angel Lane’ in Houston, Texas were presented to some of the survivors. The people who got them helped to build them. Nate Berkus decorated them. They were so nice. What a dream come true.
I was telling Sean that when your home is taken away, you must feel so lost. All the things you hold dear are ruined. They showed many of the families go back to their old homes to try to salvage a little something (they had to wear masks and special clothing because of the mold). Few could find anything.

So aren’t you glad 8 people won the lottery and that they all were not rich to begin with? I hope they are charitable and give some of it away. Some people can’t handle money. Brian heard that instant millionaires spend about $5 million of it the first year. Can you imagine?
