Waiting, waiting and more waiting….

Standard

“The measurers will be there between 10am and 2pm.” She might as well said between 10am and 2am as I am still waiting. I called and they were held up at their first stop and we are the third stop. I decided to go out and plant some of my fairy/gnome garden marigolds and snapdragons and rearrange the little figures, mushrooms and furniture. I kept adding things and it needs to be expanded. ; ) It looks so sweet.
I am thrilled because I have two irises blooming and a few to follow. The two blooming are called Opalette (like a champagne blush) and Kiwi Slices (greenish with a purple middle). They are peaking my interest in being a iris/lily farmer big time. We have so much yard we don’t use. Plus I bought some of the beauties off of eBay and the unusual ones get top dollar. I have a few books on this and it would be something we could do in ‘our retirement’. : )
The pollen is awful and mixed in with all the dust from it being so dry. I have so much to do yet-inside and out. I need to find a happy balance. I haven’t even gotten out my warm weather clothes. Speaking of which, Sean said the electrician who went in the attic where the clothes are store just threw things here and there. I told them that Brian stayed home that day to move items out of their way. They also threw things off my eBay table in the basement onto the floor! That was so uncalled for.
I need to start listing on eBay soon. I miss selling and seeing my post office pals.
~Update-the templaters showed up 4 hours late at 6 pm. They called right before dinner and we wolfed it down. It took an hour-they use cardboard and stinky adhesive spray. The sink will fit, but the carpenter is going to have to make some cuts and a support piece for that cabinet. Brian saw one of the guys tossing stuff in the dumpster and told him about it. He didn’t even ask if he could use it! BTW, we had all the kitchen stuff in the dumpster on Monday and will be getting rid of doors, etc that are in the basement and yard.

Scenes from the dashboard

Standard
Sean and I went up to Lancaster to return some jeans he had bought at the Gap outlet store plus do a little shopping. I decided to bring along my camera and yes, these were all taken from the passenger’s seat.

This was on the way home and that is the ‘Gap, PA town clock tower’

This is the corner where the Dairy Queen use to be as seen in the movie ‘Witness’. Someday I’ll get some waffles and ice cream in here.

This is one of the outlet centers-note the horse and buggy in the photo. This particular shopping area has a lot of empty stores now.

New tile order

Standard

I persevered and found these earlier. I hope I ordered enough! Isn’t it a pretty blend and it’s about the same price as what the other tiles I was about to buy would cost-but a better price than the other glass tiles I liked.

Here’s the link for those interested in seeing some gorgeous tiles. The owner wrote back right away when I questioned whether or not I ordered enough sheets. The above is called ‘Heaven’s Gate’ and this is the suggested arrangement of tiles, but you can actually arrange them anyway you want from the selected colors. Pretty neat!( The place in California were not helpful at all). I’m kinda glad the local order fell through as I wasn’t really getting what I wanted. Now I am! I ordered a lighter grout to go more with the cabinets.

Sean and I are off to the outlets in Lancaster to return jeans he purchased a few months ago. I do have the receipt! We just couldn’t get up there any sooner than this. So far Sean has two ‘A’s. One more final to go on Friday. He’s applied at a few stores online, one being the grocery store a stone’s throw away-so he wouldn’t have to worry about spending tons of bucks on gas.

Sadness

Standard

One of my good friends in the world of blogging and cross stitching said that she and her husband suffered a painful loss today but didn’t say what. I am sick about this as I don’t know what she means and I don’t want to think the worse. I’m here for you B if you read this.

Back to square one

Standard

I just talked to the tile lady and the pretty insert pieces I liked have been disconnected. : (
I am probably going to order the mini-glass tiles I originally liked and can’t find around here-from a place in California. Shipping is free for orders over $50. The place in Delaware was charging me for freight. Brian thinks the minis will be easier to install anyway.
I’m also waiting on the dumpster. I may have to call to see where they are. And the Home Depot guy is coming to check out the cabinet doors I received FedEx to make sure they are the correct ones. I really need to get to Wally World for vacuum bags and shelf paper. How exciting is that?
My mom needs to go to the cemetery of all places to tell them who she wants to ‘be in charge’ of ‘her arrangements’ there. They called her requesting that she update her records.
Sean headed out for a few finals and he is just getting a cold. He was healthy the entire semester, but I do recall him having a cold last year for his midterms. Go figure!

New cabinet for my stitching books

Standard

I got the idea to just leave my old pantry closet (looks like a pie safe) in the living room, but push it toward the hallway more. I have all my cross stitch hardbacks stacked up in there anyway and why not utilize this and not stick it down in the basement?! I was thinking of making panels for the front to ‘dress it up’ and of course they will be cross stitched! Am I not clever? I need to find some designs that will fit on the front. Bet I’ll be checking out all my Prairie Schoolers first.

BTW, Von gave me the idea to look for a Free cycle group and I found one through Yahoo! I hope to get rid of, I mean ‘give away’ another older riding mower and maybe a china cabinet through this service. Thanks Von!

May Day

Standard

The 1st of May already! My year has been consumed with the kitchen. I am so ready to get over it and get outside and spruce up the place more!
I remember making May baskets that hung on the door knob and leaving one for my grandmom who lived with us (and mom too). Most of the time the flowers were dandelions. Someone once picked tulips or daffodils out of a neighbor’s yard and got in trouble for it-I would say it was Don or Ken, one of my younger brothers. I would have never done that!
Sunday night the Extreme Home: Makeover Edition with the home in the northeast Philly area aired. It was fun to see the different sights of the city. We’ve never been to the Independence Hall visitor center as it is fairly new. We were wondering where the stained glass maker and the Medieval Place were (Paige the designer got the armor for her special room for the granddaughter there).
The house was beautiful and made the other houses in the neighborhood look old and sad. I’m sure the neighbors are envious to some degree, but they seem like a well loved family.
I enjoyed seeing Paul DiMeo’s mom and dad from my hometown of Media stop by. I swear I have seen Mr. D in Media as he looked familiar.
The dumpster is coming tomorrow so ‘cabinet-henge’ will go away. That mess is driving me crazy. I hope Brian bits the bullet and gets rid of dry wall and old doors that are taking up precious space in the basement. He has a riding mower next to the shed that doesn’t run either! The problem with that is the tires are flat. Wish him well at getting that one pushed into the dumpster.
Sean has three finals and he is officially a college sophomore! He got a certificate last semester for getting over a 3.5 gpa and he was listed in the incorrect major! He was a health major or something similar as listed in the program (he didn’t attend the ceremony). Now he’s back in Earth and Space and may switch to Meterology when he transfers to the main campus or goes to another school.

Flower shopping

Standard

After church last night, I asked Sean if we could stop by one of my favorite nurseries and he obliged. We were halfway there anyway. Talk about overwhelming-they were fully stocked! Their prices are good-annuals $1.99 to $2.99. I know Wally World is probably cheaper, but they don’t have the colors and choices that this place does. I purchased marigolds, snapdragons, petunias, salvia and impatiens, my standard ‘filler’ plants. I also bought some mini-marigolds (sold as an herb) and johnny jump-ups for my fairy garden. Also found a few herbs like dill and lavender. I have trouble with lavender and if anyone has growing hints, I’d appreciate them.
I think all the pollen overload gave me a big sinus headache a few hours later right up until bedtime. I feel better now, thank goodness, but will use the Flonase before going outside.
Cosmo ‘christened’ the new kitchen floor with a few scratches already! I couldn’t believe it! I bought a few throw rugs with the fringe on the ends and he likes to kick them and then take off like a Looney Tunes character with the spinning feet, thus leaving a few scratches behind. Brian read on the web about a laminate repair kit. I am suppose to get a ‘customer care kit’ from the company where we bought the floor. Doesn’t seem too scratch resistant to me as stated on the packaging and what the salesman told us. : (
I got an email from my friend who lost her son last week. Said that she received the plants from me (I sent her a planter with a variety of green houseplants). The wake was attended by a few hundred people who really loved her son and raved about him. I was glad to read this because it will definitely help give her closure.
Off to the grocery store-oh happy day!

This is what I picked out!

Standard

It’s not exactly the glass mini tile I originally picked out, but I am actually getting little tiles in the interesting decorative insert there (this was taken with the camera photo). The mini-tiles were over $700, and I couldn’t stomach paying all that. I almost got a handmade blue in about a 4″ square, but they were expensive too. I wanted something more natural looking and the lady showed us this to go with the cabinets more, and I fell for it because of the decorative insert with the rainbow of colors and the flower. They are on order and we may tackle putting them up ourselves (that may change). BTW, the grout will match the tile.
We stopped by to see my uncle on the way home and brought him some Wendy’s chili and Pepperidge Farm goodies from the outlet store nearby. He was talking about himself the entire time about how one bad thing with his health lead to the next and he never seems to be able get be helped. He’s telling us all this while puffing on his pipe-cough!

It’s all in the detail

Standard

Just ordered pewter finished lightswitch and outlet covers because no way am I having those ugly plastic ones in the kitchen the electrician put on:

Gotta hit the hay as Brian dared me we wouldn’t get to the tile store before 2! It’s only opened until 3, so he is wrong. I can get by on little sleep-well most times. ; )
