Yard long beans

Standard

Aren’t these funny looking green beans? Some of them are longer then the recommended 18″-I didn’t think they were ready yet! I actually acquired these from the outside of the fence. They are Liana R.S. and called Asparagus or snake beans too. I wish you had seen the cat playing with one of these-it was funny! The Chinese have been growing them for thousands of years. We had these for dinner last night (broken into manageable pieces) with butter and bacon pieces. Don’t they look smashing on my new countertop? Can you tell I just watched an English movie-‘Pride and Prejudice’?
Today I harvested some Cosmos seeds. I think they are so gorgeous-so bright and cheery. And easy to grow. Most of my containers went kaput on me.

Teddy collage for Pea

Standard

After I weeded around the pond(no frog escapees, but one was sitting piggyback on the floating alligator), I came in and played some Sims2 (definitely a game I have to get use to) and made this for my sweet new friend up north, Pea. I hope you like it. I try not to pick ‘the usual’ photos. I put a little boy in the middle because I know you have sons. There is Radar O’Reilly’s teddy from M*A*S*H up in the right. I found a teddy that looked like my Sean’s Boo Bear (near the middle kinda on an angle). And it wouldn’t be a proper Dianne collage without a vintage photo! Enjoy! (click to enlarge)

The benefits of Peroxide

Standard

Thanks to my friend Terri for the forward. I tried it as a mouthwash-only for one minute though and my teeth felt really clean. I’d love to brighten my smile too!
The health benefits of peroxide.
This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana
“I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little old bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don’t tell you about peroxide, or they would lose thousands of dollars.”
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe)
No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. (Small print says mouth wash and gargle right on the bottle)
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of “Peroxide” to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters, table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years – until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine, but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7?
8. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
9. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, or plugged sinuses. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes then blow your nose into a tissue.
10. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
11. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown,
faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it’s not a drastic change.
12. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
13. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, Pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
14. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors with, and there is no smearing which is why I love it so much for this.
I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I’m glad there’s a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner.
I will add that after I had Sean, I had an infected hangnail I couldn’t get rid of. My neighbor suggested plain old peroxide and that did the trick.

A very full day yesterday

Standard

Sean and I went out to lunch and did some shopping yesterday. I had promised to take him to The Olive Garden and that’s where we went. I do prefer their dinner menu. If you are in the mood for endless salad and soup, this is the place for lunch-under $6. We didn’t get that. I don’t eat soup when it’s over 90 degrees out. I got eggplant parmigiana and Sean got a seafood linguini-both were good. Take out is great (for Bri) and they give you a huge salad, breadsticks and all the fixings along with the main meal.
Kohl’s is across the street from the restaurant. They are trying to move out the rest of their summer clothes-60% off. I mainly bought a few tops and a few cute pairs of sandals. I got a gorgeous purse with squares of ‘leather’ in salmon, browns and greens. Recently I had seen a similar purse in a magazine and then on a local tv show. I got a $34 purse for $14.
Next we headed to Best Buy as I wanted a computer game called Sims 2 that my tribenet pals play all the time. You tell the Sims people want to do, etc. I tried the demo so far and it is fun!
I had to go food shopping after dinner which I dislike as I don’t like loading the van in a semi-dark parking lot. I mainly went for the cat as he was hating the food from last week.
The show Treasure Hunt was in Philadelphia last night (I could finally settle down at 9 pm). A member of the 4 teams left had to walk on the ledge of a building-on the 22nd floor! They were of course wearing a harness, but a few of them had feet bigger than the ledge! They got to the end of the building and had to lean down to read a plaque (for a clue) on the building which said Founder’s Hall-Girard-they had to go to Girard College. They found their answers and opened them under the dome-a big room that was very rundown looking-chipped paint, etc.. It’s not a college at all, but a school for kids in grades 1-12 who are of financial need and in a one parent household.
I called my mom at 10pm as I thought she was mad at me from an earlier conversation. She said she had tried to call my uncle and he wasn’t answering the phone. She had called his stepdaughter and she had a call in to the facility. What happened was my uncle had fallen down on the way to look in his closet. He skinned his knee, but once down, he couldn’t get up again. Thank goodness my mom called Dorothy as he wasn’t checked for a while. Now he is wearing a med-alert kind of thing around his neck. He is so weak, but he is eating better.
So I had a restless night from all the commotion.
I hope to just do quiet things today. : )

Finally a day to garden

Standard

I went to the shed and got out the tangled orange cord (thanks Bri) and the trusty old weed whacker. I was a sight to be seen-old bleach stained pedal pushers, my old flower shirt with a gray tank under it, my hair in ponytails and my protective eye gear. At first ‘my pal’ was letting me down-humming and hardly cutting. It sounded tired. I thought-oh no, there goes the Toro! I unplugged it, flipped it over and pulled some more nylon cutting cord out-presto! That did the trick, it was it’s old busy self again! So I did the borders in the front yard, down the sidewalk and up the flagstone path. The heat was starting to get to me by the time Brian came out to trim the hedges. I discovered ‘the magic’ of the mist dial on the hose-that helped revive me several times.
About 1:30, after 2 hours and sporting a beet red face, I gave up and came in. Brian worked a little longer, but I am far from finished yet. I believe you should try to keep it neat where people see it (that’s outside) and worry about everything else later. I may go out again tomorrow. I am a little sick right now-I think I overdid it. We didn’t go to church. Again there’s always tomorrow.
