Trying to calm

Standard

My mom is out here for a few days so I could try and help her calm her nerves. B#2 is now living in the area again and decided he was going to clean out a lot of my mom’s things. I don’t want to go on about Sunday, which was suppose to be my first ‘fun’ flea marketing day, but I told her to pack her bag and head home with me. Tonight we had mom come along for our anniversary dinner. She’s been drooling (sounded like it anyway) every time she saw the blasted Red Lobster commercial. I ordered a Pina Colada (Bri took a silly photo of me, but the camera is in the van) and mom and I ordered ‘Lobster in Paradise’ meal. We got a lobster tail, 5 coconut shrimp and a baked potato (along with salad and their famous biscuits). Bri ordered New Orleans style Mahi-mahi and had to bring some home. Mom’s fork was really flying, so that was the best present I could have gotten, to see her enjoying her food. She came home and said she was going to lay on Sean’s bed and read. Last time I looked, she was out like a light. Someone her age deserves the best treatment and she wasn’t getting that.

As gifts, I got a few pieces of jewelry that I picked out, both silver. One is a ring with a few random faux pearls and rhinestones. The earrings are etched glass ball danglers. Bri also surprised me with a bouquet featuring red roses. I’m really zonked tonight. I won’t be up too much longer.

And I thought this was cool: Senator Clinton was stomping in Drexel Hill, PA on Sunday where Bri and I first lived as a married couple! There are some really close-ups of her in this set! Here’s some more info on the day.

Speaking of the election, Sean got his absentee ballot and deliberated for 15 minutes and told me who he voted for. I was happy.

Photo Hunt- High

Standard

This is the main conservatory at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. This is a wall of orchids and was over a large door way. You can see the roof of the conservatory there, so it’s high up! I think it’s amazing to see this every year when they do their orchid display. As of 4 pm, I have no comments! Wow!  I also made a video of my day yesterday in my right side bar.

My son was also high up in the stands when he saw Bill Clinton a few nights ago.

Orchid paradise

Standard

I just got back and had love to jump on the computer to check out my shots (this camera doesn’t take any bad ones). That’s after getting the mail and walking Mr. Cosmo around the yard first. It’s so dreary here, but not cold. I got quite warm a few times in just my sweater! There is also a orchid sale at the gardens today through the weekend and I bought two (from a Hawaiian seller) and a neat begonia-all for under $30. I need to take photos of them to show you.

Here are some neat shots. I uploaded my photos and am editing them at flickr. Here is the slideshow.

Inside the conservatory. What are those white spiky flowers?
Zoey IDed them as Foxtail lilies! Thanks! They are awesome against the green!

Orchids and fountain

Love any lime/chartreuse colored orchids and flowers in general and these are so pretty next to the bluish purple flowers-Canterbury Bells maybe?
Lime and purple
These were some of my favorites with the polka dots!

I went to the rose and hibiscus room and look what I found:
Neon pink and orange hibiscus
Talk about neon!
And this is in the children’s garden. We didn’t see everything at Christmastime
Birds and nest fountain
I wore my pedometer and I walked 3 k steps there today! Yeah!!

Missing in blogland

Standard

Only a few pals are blogging regularly this week. I know one had company and others are waiting for their long winter to end so they can go out in their yards and blog about flowers, etc.

I was going to try and get to Longwood Gardens today if the rain holds out. I’m mainly interested in the orchids in the conservatories, but it’s a little walk to that area. Now my mom wants to come out too, but I bet I won’t see her for at least 3 or more hours. She’s anxious to print out her flower show pictures as I just bought her two ink cartridges for her new printer for Easter. She also wants to use her camera more. Sean used his new camera at the Clinton rally, though he wasn’t that close (8k were there!). He also took a little video. I guess he will upload them sometime today. I also have to proof a couple of his papers over the weekend.

I really feel like I need to get out of the house today, so I’m hoping I can at least chase a few raindrops to see something different.

Extreme Home Makeover-local

Standard

About a month ago, the ABC show Extreme Makeover:Home Edition redid a home in Wilmington, DE., very near our neck of the woods. In the local paper it was saying how a local meat/food market provided the food for the crew (gourmet they said). Anderson Homes did the major work, but some local contractors did things like painting and removing debris and went back even after their alloted time was put in. The one guy’s daughter graduated from high school with Sean and I worked with his mom when I did the teacher aide fill in job. It’s a small world! Watch it on Sunday night at 8:00 and you’ll see those guys (other than carpenter Paul DiMeo) with heavy Philly accents!

Mom had me turn on a PBS show the other night as they were showing scenes from the Mushroom festival that takes place here in September, and one chatty lady who was telling them quite a bit about mushrooms was in the church choir with me.

Today, I’m like the lady in the commercial who feels like her head is blowing up like a balloon. My right sinus was achy like a toothache last night. I know it’s suppose to rain for about 1.5 days, so I was wondering if that has something to do with people and their sinuses-like barometric pressure inside your head? Anyway, got a pot of stew cooking to get my mind off my head as I can’t use Flonase until I get my eyes checked next week. I have to stick with salt spray or the homeopathic kind of nasal spray.

Bri has some dental work today, about 3 different spots and he’s just thrilled about that. My mom went to the doctor and he wants her to get a few tests on her spine as he is concerned about her sciatica still bothering her as much as it still does. She weighs about 120, not terrible, but she could stand about another 10 pds.

I want to get to Longwood Gardens before the 31st as that’s the orchid display is only up until. I completely forgot about it! I want some awesome photos!

Here’s some more flower shots from yesterday:

Tulips

Two different colors of roses

For BJ

In rememberance of B

Received this email from one of my longtime internet pals, I’ve known her for at least 10 years. She met her husband online through a Titanic chat room. I enjoyed hearing about her Titanic dinners and their various cruise trips.
Here’s some of the email:

On March 5, 2008, B passed away at home with me there. It was sudden.
Dianne, of all of the thoughtful things that you have sent to me, the cross stitched, framed piece that you gave me of the couple on a ship’s deck means the most at this time. It was indeed B and me. Thank you.

Fondly,
BJ

Needless to say I was very touched. I feel the same way about anything anyone ever made for me too. I’m very sad for my friend tonight. I will always associate anything about the Titanic with her and B.

I got a couple of bunches of roses for dirt cheap again at the supermarket, and this is one of them that I just photographed.

Still a big jackpot!

Standard

We do ‘gamble’ every week and buy a few dollars worth of Powerball tickets. I just saw that no one won again and the payout is worth $275 million! Wow! Just a piece of the pie would be fine for me. ; )

Not too much going on. Sean went to the eye doctor and now has contacts, but he needs new glasses too. It only took him about 10 minutes to learn how to put them in-must be those long fingers. He has to get his glasses up at the State College Walmart as he can’t come home again to pick them up. By the way, I think I mentioned this earlier, the eye doctor was in a photo with Oprah Winfrey and she told me she had been to her show. That’s all.

Here’s a closeup of the only thing(s) we bought at the Flower show. Mom bought me the burgundy, pink and lime flowers that the local Acme store booth had and Brian bought me the beads to commemorate the flower show.

We were going to go to the outlets in Lancaster, but decided to go to Delaware instead. My tummy was way off yesterday and I’m ok today(so far), so I think we’ll go to Old Navy, Michaels and Target!

Just a little tease

Standard

It’s been a long day. We didn’t get moving until 1 to get my mom and grab the 2:17 train to the city. I know, it’s a late start. Daylight savings messed with our sleep a bit. The flower show was on until 6 anyway. I think if the four of us go on a Sunday again, we should eat a big lunch and then go. We ate a big breakfast, grabbed a pretzel and nachos at the adjoining mall as a snack and then walked the walk, though mom was in a rented wheelchair. We always manage to miss something. I heard a woman say she loved the bayou with the steam. Well, we didn’t see that, yet Brian saw a photo of the exhibit on flickr. I shouldn’t complain as I took over 100 photos and did a video too! I haven’t uploaded or edited the video yet, but will tomorrow. However, here are some of my favorite people and some broad in beat up pink sneakers. : )

On the rails
It was nice to have my guys along. Here’s the inside of the train on the 35 minute trip to the city. It takes us 45-55 minutes just to get to mom’s house first.
Sean and Mom

The guys took turns pushing mom around and helping her take photos. At the end, she ditched the wheelchair and walked around to see if she got to see everything!

The guys under an arch

Did I mention the theme was New Orleans?

Me at the flower show

I don’t wear sneaks a lot, but I had to today with all the walking we did. I know my ankle boots would look so much better, but it was comfort over looks here! I saw a young woman go in the show in about 3″ spike heels-she’s crazy! I am at least wearing my new glasses. This exhibit had lights pointing down (see the foot marks) so you could stand under the exhibit. Bri didn’t get he was suppose to take a shot of what was over my head along with me! But I am standing in the wrong direction too!

And for Zoey, our friendly blogger tablescaper:

Pink and Orange

This was a hot pink mylar like rug!

and this too:

Orchids and lights

Plastic or paper lights and tons of orchids. The other tablescape will be on my slideshow that I’ll put together later.

We went to Carrabbas Italian restaurant when we got back to mom’s area and enjoyed a nice dinner there. I guess I’m glad I went. I just love using that camera so much, but I like spending time with my family the best!

Photo Hunt-Different

Standard

I so miss my flowers! I was out this past Monday raking around my little box hedges and irises as they looked so forlorn. So this photo hunt had me thinking about how I love different colors when it comes to choosing flowers for my various gardens. I really like a rainbow effect, but these green hued flowers are so unusual! They are easy to grow and not hard to find. The lime color zinnias are Envy and the greenish irises are Kiwi.

And… Sean arrived home safe and sound about 3 Friday afternoon. He looks good. He gave the security deposit for his studio apartment today before he left. When his dad got home, he gave his boy the biggest smile I’ve seen in ages. : )
