Craftiness abounds

Most of what I am showing below were made from recycling or from a sheet of $1 stickers, etc. I got 40 paper heart doilies in one package!

This is suppose to be a cake! I made it out of a tea bag cylinder-there is a lid under the frill!

This is for my mom. It has a plastic heart ‘cover’, meant to be like a ‘snow globe’ with loose hearts inside. That is my favorite rubber stamp.

Some of this ATC is made from an old magazine of my mom’s (Oriental rug and Cherubs)

I got a Valentine’s Day card making kit at Big Lots and promptly added my own things. I made 3 for the Make A Child Smile kids
MACS kid’s card
Found this kicking around my mom’s -it’s a key chain box about 3″ long. The bottom slides open to put some change or something small in it. I added some Wizard of Oz images from junk mail, some ribbons and charms. It’s for my niece.

And finally, an ATC on a quilted hot pad Zoey over at Perennial Passion gave me for Christmas!

Photo Hunt Old-fashioned

Standard

My mom is 77 and still loves paperdolls. That certainly is an old-fashioned thing to like, but it stems back to her girlhood in the 1930s during The Great Depression. She said she would sit for hours and hours on the step playing with her movie star paperdolls. Nowadays, she has collected the Tom Tierney paperdolls for years. I was down in a book warehouse and called her to see if she had the Tierney ones I had found there and she actually needed a few!
So this is my homage to the activity that made my mom happy as a child. The image is from a children’s book from the 70s, so they were still being fashioned then. Personally, I loved my Barbies! But as you can see, I love cutting out paper now myself.

How many middle-aged people…

…does it take to unplug and plug the modem box? Two! Seems yesterday our signal went from good to nothing. I tried what I had in the past, but it didn’t work. We have two boxes here, as we have the phone over the internet and got the box so we could have a wireless connection for Sean. The phone was fine. Brian couldn’t get it to work this morning so I got on the phone with Comcast. All I had to do was unplug the power cord in the ‘newer’ box. Holy Toledo-it started to work and a lot faster too. So now I know. The wires and cords are such a jumble, I thought for sure something came unplugged or was hanging on by a thread.

Yesterday I decided to list a few things on eBay that I had found in my closet cleaning efforts. I also listed some stuff for Sean, one of which was a 6-CD set of classical music that corresponded with a text book. I sold the CDs right away. I was sorry I didn’t ask more for them now! I have my own 15 or higher piece set of classical music so I didn’t need these too.

I also made some ATCs for a new challenge. I got the idea from Honey Girl Studios. Take your catalogs and clip them to make the cards. I found it was easier to look for say, all red items or candles. I had fun making them and will post soon.
Not sure what to do today, but I so need to go out someplace, so I hope the weather stays ok. I’m not one to have to run out everyday (believe me, I know women around here that hate to be home-isn’t that crazy?) Here’s hoping the weather holds out!

Sean is looking into internship. He mentioned that one of his profs will have one out in California in the redwood area. That would be expensive for us. He did find something locally and emailed the person in charge. I think he should keep his options open and if he wanted to go out of state, then he’d have to save up money to do so.

Have a great day!

Sean slept in and wasn’t use to ‘the quiet’. He’s been eating up a storm and enjoyed relaxing on the big red sofa in front of both his laptop and the tv. It was a football day Saturday for him while Bri went out shopping for yours truly. I was tidying up the dining room area so we have some place to eat dinner on Thursday. I use that as my work area for my paper crafts. I had a lot of stuff spread all over the place and am not finished yet. I had the table almost all cleaned off when something in my ‘idea’ box caught my eye and I made a few more cards, a few for surprise gifts. I’ll show you when they are finished.

My mom and her friend and boarder Jim decided to go to the dog show in Philly. My mistake was not calling her like I usually do, around 10:45 as I thought she wasn’t home. She could have called me too. So around 4, I started ringing her house, nothing. At 8 I called my brother’s house and Colleen tried mom’s cell-nothing. She said she’d send my brother around at 9 if no one had heard anything. Mom did call me around 8:45 and I was short with her and made her call my brother’s house. When I called back, I asked why she didn’t call me once during the day. She had some waiting time (like an hour) in the parking lot of the train station as she had missed the 11:25 train into the city. They stayed downtown until 7 pm! That was a total surprise to me, her being out after dark in a crowded city. They went to the Reading Terminal Market and it was jammed packed. A lot of things were going through my head and my evening wasn’t that great. I’m glad she got her ‘doggie fix’ and all, but geez, call someone to let them know you are out after 5. She never did that before. She’s getting too old to go on excursions like that. She was with Jim, and today he turns 61!

I am almost ready to share at least one finish-that would be for the cross stitch lottery due 12/31. I am working on a very late gift too. Stitching has slowed down just to the evenings. I hope my mojo peps up soon! I have ornaments to stitch!

Update-Sometime soon, I have to go to the dentist as a filling close to the gum line on the bottom left of my mouth chipped off leaving a highly discolored (amber) tooth! I think some of it started last night while I was still awake at 3 am. I have ‘herbal gumdrops’ that are suppose to help you relax and left a crunchy thing in my mouth. It then all came out when I was trying to enjoy a lemon drop, having forgotten about the adventure at 3. Geez.

Mom feels bad that I was so upset. She said she has a down feeling about me, which doesn’t make me feel good. Sean says he has good vibes about me. We are both Scorpios and can read each other fairly well. He just doesn’t know what to get me for my birthday. I believe he just utilized my Amazon wishlist tonight! He had gone to Walmart and I heard Brian say, ‘that’s all’? HA.

Here’s a little gift for my friend who likes to belly dance.

That is her dog Haylee. I don’t think she reads my blog. I made her about 3 dog ATCs- they are in Flickr too. I just feel like doing that more lately than stitching. I have three boxes of my paper stuff nicely pushed under the little sofa in there now. It looks neater too.

Engaged

I’m killing two birds with one stone here. That’s our engagement photo from the local paper that I made into an Art Trading Card on paper-one of my first too! So it’s almost our 25th engagement anniversary which will be on my birthday in November. Notice my Princess Diana haircut and top of that era.

I decided to go help my mom a bit yesterday. She seemed like she needed me to come down and I did. I can’t do any yard work there as she has a bad mosquito problem. There must be a ton of stuff filled with water around in hidden places. I got out of the van and one landed on me!

So I did half the kitchen. She is rearranging cabinets, but what I saw, didn’t work. I tried to put all the tomato based items on one shelf, then separated the fruits and veggies. For some reason she has a spider problem in her cabinets. I am not a spider fan and was scared to put my hands in them as I saw little egg sacks. I had to get the broom first. I also went through her spices. For someone who has so much of everything (like 7 cans of tuna), she was trying to hold on to open jars of spices (no lids) and outdated items. I really think her time in that house is limited. I wish she’d just let me help as much as I can.

For some reason she took boxes from her basement and but them outside and never brought them in again. She said she was sorting them out, but water got in them and ruined books, yarn and Christmas ornaments. I think her reasoning skills are affected a bunch from her pain meds.

We did go out to dinner to Bennigan’s  where she had steak and I had salmon. I’m thinking of the Omega 3 factor  since Bri and I are getting our bloodwork done on Tuesday morning. I sure hope my triglycerides are lower. I am trying to take the flaxseed oil capsules a few times a week too.

I  cleaned in my kitchen today. I wiped down shelves and the top of the frig-ugh! And I also wiped out the garden window and rearranged the plants. You have to be somewhat of a contortionist to get to the glass shelf and the deep part, but it looks so nice now.

And here are a few ATCs I’ve been working on lately.

Today, a friend in California sent me her little collage book to add to. I was flattered.

Have a great weekend!

Watch out for Mr. Tomato

Guardian of all Toms
He’s watching out for his fellow Toms-so beware! : ) I couldn’t resist taking a photo of this funny looking guy.
And some ATCs I worked on. I started with the background on a most unusual kind of paper a few days ago. Can you guess?
ATCs with watercolor
I used travel ‘wipes’ (they smell so nice too) and watercolor pencils! The wipes are wet already which makes it fun to draw on them with the pencils. I also added water to the colors. The children are from the art e-zine link in my sidebar. I’m still working on a little boy with a sunset background on the wipe. Cool, huh? Vonna-I use playing cards for the base. These particular cards have white card stock glued to the playing card before I added the wipe layer.

Run around

Standard

Hello little yellow sunflower! Not much new here. Sean had to get his license renewed early as he won’t be home in October when his actual birthday rolls around. We headed 15 miles down to Oxford and now Sean has an official ‘legal’ license instead of a junior’s license as he’s almost 21. We took a drive through the town to see if we wanted to stop anywhere and passed Brian on the road who had just had his last day in that office. Bri turned around and followed us to a grocery store parking lot and we chatted a little and then took off, Bri to Kennett and us to Jennersville where we hit both Blockbuster and Dairy Queen. I told Sean he and his pals should be hanging out at that DQ because of all the young ladies there. He bought the second Pirates of the Carribean movie and the Illusionist at BB.

For dinner I made a few ham steaks, fresh green beans and Parmesan couscous, the left over squash souffle and biscuits (that had been frozen). It was a quick dinner, the best kind.

After dinner I did some mail art for the ATC cards I’ll send to three of my friends. The ATCs are calling cards. I like the way they turned out! The mailart (the envelopes) were decorated with images, places and wording from a Brandywine Valley tourist book from 2000. The envelopes are in my flickr album if you want to see!
Calling Cards ATCs

I went through my cross stitch stash and want to do a Christmas ornament for the blog I joined and haven’t followed along with- getting an ornament a month made (I think that’s it!) I settled on a The Prairie Schooler design of two cardinals in a evergreen tree. I want to do a few more cardinals that I have in my stash anyway. I did get to the post office (thanks again to Sean) and mailed off Veronica’s NRR to her daughter Helen for safe keeping. The mail clerk handed me a rather small mailer and said that’s what they are using for Global priority now. I told Helen she may want to open it and give it a nice press for her mum. The clerk was a little grumpy and I asked her if she wanted squash and she took two of them.

Don’t forget to play the ‘guess the squash’ game! I will make you a special prize if you win! I am hoping to have more than two comments when the harvest is done. I don’t know if it’s my blogs name, what I talk about or what, but I just don’t get a bunch of comments and never have. I do have a handful of special pals (thanks so much) that drop by to read my ramblings. If I had anything about just stitching, cooking or photography in my title, I’d probably get more hits, but that’s not my main intention. I have this as an informational blog for myself too. Also a place to add my photos and anything special I want to read about in the future. I will have my three year blog anniversary soon. Can’t believe it!
