Plymouth Rock

Wow that was a difficult hunt! I could show you a building or an elephant and say they are heavy, but I didn’t have an elephant photo. Instead, I present to you Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Mass (the links photo looks just like mine). I figured not a lot of people have seen it. It’s a big rock, much bigger than how it looks here, so I figure it’s heavy also. When my husband and I saw it back in 1984, it was on the beach and under a marble shelter. It’s probably the marker for the exact spot where the Pilgrims landed.

I am also reminded of the song (since I just saw it in a journal I wrote back in 1979) that ‘he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’. I have 3 brothers.

  1. So, you don’t have any elephantphoto.. 😉 I’m sure that rock is really heavy, it sure looks like it.
I can truly recommend you to climb a mountain, or take a longer walk somewhere nice! It’s quite a feeling. And don’t you worry about the bags…the weight lies mostly on your hips… 🙂

    Have a nice day!

  2. Here I am, a New Englander since birth and I have never seen Plymouth Rock (not even in a book). So I thank you for letting me see it here. It is on my places to go to list!

  3. Well that is so fascinating…to think that heavy rock marks where the Pilgrims landed is just so awesome! I enjoyed reading your Bucket List on your previous post…hope all of it comes true:-) xox

  4. We saw it just this past fall when we were visitng MA. Yep, it’s still under the big marble pavillion. It’s weird, because you’re looking down at it, it doesn’t look quite as big as you think it might, but there are all kinds of signs and placards about the history. Very interesting place to visit, especially if you’re also doing the Plantation and the Mayflower II

  5. Very heavy. I had ancestors at Plymouth–though they didn’t come on the Mayflower so I don’t know if they stepped off on Plymouth Rock. One of them got kicked out of town for pulling a knife on Miles Standish. I’ve never visited, but would like to.
